The Hague, The Netherlands, July 18, 2014 - After a day of qualifying and two days of pool play matches, the US$1-million Transavia Grand Slam presented by Bas Van de Goor Foundation continues here Friday with 32 total elimination matches for men and women to set the schedule for Saturday’s quarter- and semi-final rounds.
The Hague Beach Stadium and three courts on Scheveningen beach will be used for the FIVB World Tour event as 18 countries still remain in the competition, including 15 countries still in contention for the men’s gold medal and 14 nation’s still challenging for the women’s title.
As the host country, The Netherlands has three men’s teams and one women’s tandem still competing. Both Brazil (five women’s teams and two men’s tandems) and United States (three women and four men) have seven pairs still competing with Germany advancing five teams (three women and two men) to the elimination rounds.
Friday’s play opens at 10:30 a.m. (local time) for women and 12:30 p.m. for men for the first-round of elimination. The second elimination round starts at 3:30 p.m. for women and 4:30 p.m. for men. The final set of matches Friday at The Hague Beach Stadium and the Scheveningen courts is schedule to be played at 8:30 p.m. Here is Friday’s schedule.

As a “prelude” to the 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, the final three days of the Transavia Grand Slam will be staged only at the Scheveningen courts where the medal matches will be played Sunday. The final two teams in both gender’s competition with be competing for the gold medals and a share of the $70,000 first-place prize for each winning team.
Following this week’s event, the FIVB World Tour returns to the United States for the second-straight year as Long Beach in southern California hosts another $1-million event. The international circuit returns to Europe in August for stops in Austria (Klagenfurt, July 29-August 3) and Poland (Stare Jablonki, August 19-24).
