In the second round, Blanchette and Brewington were faced with Czechs Vojtech Pavlusek and Vojtěch Votava and advanced with a 2-0 (22-20, 21-16) win. In the women’s qualifier, 17-year-old Lily Davis and 18-year-old Myriah Massey had a smooth and clean day, going through their two matches without dropping any sets to qualify. The Americans were dominant in their debut, beating Malaysians Cadence Yu Heng and Rachael Yu Jie 2-0 (21-6, 21-8).

In the decisive match, Germans Rika Dieckmann and Clara Dressen were more of a challenge to the Americans, but they still managed to win, prevailing 2-0 (21-9, 26-24) to claim a spot in the main draw.

“Our first goal was advancing from the qualifier, so now we focus on the main draw,” Massey said. “I think that together we served aggressively and we stayed aggressive the whole time. I think that was the biggest thing. As for improvements, we can maybe do better in out-of-system setting, but the key is just staying aggressive, pushing each other a little bit and mixing up our defense.”

Nosálková/Cyrani (CZE) vs. HSU C.N./CHUANG H.T. (TPE) - Round 1 #19987699

Czechia’s Michaela Cyrani and Lucie Nosálková celebrate a point

Hungarians Anna Szabó and Flóra Zolnai won two matches to advance, just like Davis and Massey, while Belgium’s Annelore Bex/Inès Piret and Czechia’s Michaela Cyrani /Lucie Nosálková had each to secure three victories during the day.

The main draw begins on Wednesday with 32 teams in each gender and pool play continues until Thursday. The top three teams in each of the eight pools advance to the elimination rounds – the eight pool winners go directly to the Round of 16, while the teams that finished second and third play in the Round of 24. Both rounds will be held on Friday, with the quarterfinals and semifinals following on Saturday and the medal matches concluding the event on Sunday.
