The FIVB is aware that a female beach volleyball player from Ecuador tested positive upon arrival to Phuket, Thailand for the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships.

The positive test result was identified during a mandatory PCR test carried out upon arrival to the country. The player concerned was immediately transferred to a local hospital as per local regulations. Her teammate, who was identified as a close contact, has been placed in a quarantine hotel designated by the government. Any further actions will adhere to the guidelines stipulated by local health authorities.

As the Ecuador women’s national U19 volleyball team was in the main draw of the tournament, the next team from the qualification phase will therefore advance to the main draw.

The FIVB remains in close contact with the event organiser and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Rigorous health and safety measures at the event continue to be followed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
