FIVB World Ranking leaders Thâmela and Victoria are both ready to make their first semifinal appearance at the World Championship after they defeated Italians Valentina Gottardi and Reka Orsi Toth 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) in the first quarterfinal of the day in Australia to continue undefeated in the tournament.

“I’m so, so happy,” Thâmela reacted. “It didn’t sink in yet, I don’t even know what to say. There were a lot of Brazilians here pushing us, and I want to thank them. And also, our team, our family, and our friends. We’re very happy and will fight to win that title for Brazil.”

Competing together at the World Championship for the fourth time in their careers, Tina and Anastasija were already guaranteed their best campaign ever in the event in Adelaide, having made it past the Round of 16 for the first time, but they took not one, but two steps further, defeating Americans Kelly Cheng and Molly Shaw 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) to get into the Final Four.

“We knew that they were a very strong team, and that we had to play our best to win,” Anastasija reacted. “And today we did it.”
