The Paris Olympians had a rough start to their campaign in Australia, going down to Latvia's Martins Plavins/Kristians Fokerots and Czechia's Ondřej Perušič/David Schweiner in their first two encounters. With that, they needed a win in their last pool match to rank third in the pool and progress to the elimination round, and that's what they got, dominating Togo's Koffi Kotoka and Kuamivi Samani to win 2-0 (21-9, 21-12).
