The Beach Volley Vikings went undefeated in pool play and now focus on the Round of 32

Norwegian stars Anders Mol and Christian Sørum emerged as the first pool winners in the men's tournament of the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship on Sunday, when they won their third match in Adelaide.

The Beach Volley Vikings topped two duos from Switzerland and one from Uruguay to end pool play at the top of Pool A and will now have two days off before playing in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.

After defeating Uruguayans Hans Hannibal and Nicolás Llambías on Saturday and Swiss Adrian Heidrich and Jonathan Jordan on Saturday, Mol and Sørum faced another team from Switzerland in their third and last pool match in Adelaide and dropped their first set in the tournament, but still came out on top, beating Marco Krattiger and Leo Dillier 2-1 (24-26, 21-16, 15-12).

The first men's team to reach three victories in the tournament, they move directly to the Round of 32 alongside Krattiger and Dillier. Heidrich and Jordan defeated Hannibal and Llambías 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) to earn their first victory in the tournament and also move forward - they can either go to the Round of 32, if they are one of the four best third-placed teams, or face the 'lucky losers' round.

Defending champions move forward

Six men's teams secured their spots in the elimination rounds by getting to their second victories at the World Championship in the first block of matches on Sunday. Among them were defending champions Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner of Czechia, who came back to beat Americans Andy Benesh and Miles Partain 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 15-9) in Pool H.

Besides the Czechs, Latvians Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots are also guaranteed to advance from Pool H - the 2024 European champions kept their record clean with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-11) victory over Togo's Koffi Kotoka and Kuamivi Samani.

Two duos also continue undefeated in Pool F and have their progress confirmed - Cubans Jorge Alayo and Noslen Díaz, who defeated New Zealand's Bradley Fuller and Ben O'Dea 2-0 (21-16, 21-10), and Portuguese Hugo Campos and João Pedrosa, who needed the tie-breaker to take Benin's Mensan Tohouegnon and Yacoubou Daouda down 2-1 (21-19, 20-22, 15-9).
