Pairings for the Round of 32 were decided by a draw held at the Foro Italico at 1pm on Tuesday, with the knockout rounds of the competition set to begin on Wednesday.

Draw maps out road ahead at World Championships

After three days of pool play, 28 of the 32 teams per gender set to progress to the next stage of the competition are now qualified, with another four to emerge from today's Lucky Loser matches. The Round of 32 matches on Wednesday will be followed by the Round of 16 on Thursday, the quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the matches for bronze and gold on Sunday.
In the men's tournament, look out for a clash between high-flying Dutch pairs Alex Brouwer/Rob Meeuwsen and Christiaan Varenhorst/Steven van de Velde. Another fascinating encounter will pit local favourites Paolo Nicolai/Samuele Cottafava against Cubans Amaro Diaz/Moliner Alayo. And Olympic champions Anders Mol and Christian Sorum of Norway will be up against another Dutch pair, Matthew Immers and Stefan Boermans.
In the women's tournament, reigning world champs Sarah Pavan/Melissa Humana-Paredes of Canada will take on Taina Lima/Hegeile Almeida dos Santos of Brazil. There will be an all-American encounter between Kelley Kolinske/Sara Hughes and Emily Day/Emily Stockman, and Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Taliqua Clancy/Mariafe Artacho del Solar will play Germany's Sandra Ittlinger and Isabel Schneider.
