Rome is Italy's largest and most populous city with over 2.8-million residents. Located in the central-western portion of the Italian peninsula on the Tiber river, Rome's history as a city spans over two and a half thousand years, as one of the founding cities of western civilization.

Rome, the Eternal City, capital of the Republic of Italy, was also the capital of the Roman Empire. Heart of Catholic Christianity, it is the only city in the world hosting within it a foreign State, the enclave of the Vatican City, which is why it is often defined as the capital of two states.

Central Rome remains essentially Renaissance and Baroque in character. Rome is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the European Union.

Venue - Foro Italico

The Foro Italico in Rome will play host to the World Championships in 2022 for a second time after also welcoming the competition in 2011. It set the scene for the sport's top athletes at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals in 2019 and was also popular with volleyball fans when matches during the FIVB Volleyball World League in 2015 and FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in 2018 were played at the venue.
