Duda led the way with 20 points, including one kill block, while Ana Patricia contributed three kill blocks and 10 kills in attack. Akiko spearheaded the Japanese duo with 18 points to her name.

“We are very happy, because it was very important to win this game,” Duda told the FIVB. “We prepared a lot for it. The Japanese team is very strong. They are always fancy, their service is very difficult, their concentration is high and they are focused on the point. And their passing is probably among the best, it’s amazing!”

In one of Wednesday’s quarterfinals, Ana Patricia & Duda will lock horns with Latvia’s Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova for a spot in the semifinals.

“We know the next game is going to be really tough, but now it’s time to calm down, study, prepare ourselves to do our best. They play very well. It’s a difficult team for us, because it’s always 2-1, we always play tie-breaks… So tomorrow we are going to study, concentrate and train…”
