There has been another change of guard on top of the women’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking. With the expiration of last year’s Nuvali Challenge points, Latvia’s Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova, who won that event, once again gave up their number one position in the ranking to Brazil’s Carol Solberg & Barbara Seixas, who returned to the top after Monday’s update. Meanwhile, last week’s Nuvali Challenge medallists in both genders gained new ground in the charts.

Nuvali medallists gain ground in World Ranking
Yet another change on top of the women’s chart – Carol & Barbara back to number one

Tina & Anastasija’s 800 points from Nuvali 2023 were replaced by 600 points from their new eighth best result over the past 365 days, which cost them a net loss of 200 points and a drop to number three in the chart on a new total of 6,420 points, 20 points below second-ranked Svenja Muller & Cinja Tillmann, and 160 below Carol & Barbara. Unlike the Brazilian pair, both the Germans and the Latvians are taking part in this week’s Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Finals in Doha with an opportunity to race for the number one position.
Meanwhile, the teams that made the podium at last week’s Nuvali 2024 all registered solid leaps up the chart. Gold medallists Molly Shaw & Toni Rodriguez of the United States jumped 48 positions to number 57. In just three weeks since their Beach Pro Tour debut as a pair, Shaw & Toni collected three medals and a total of 2,280 points.
Netherlands’ Noa Sonneville & Brecht Piersma decorated their new team’s debut with a Nuvali silver and entered the World Ranking straight into the top 200, in position 190 on 760 points.
Germany’s Sandra Ittlinger celebrated her first medal with new partner Kim Van de Velde. They finished third in Nuvali and ascended 13 spots up to number 43 in the World Ranking after five tournaments played. Interestingly, they are still below Ittlinger’s previous team with Karla Borger, still ranked 18th despite splitting up back in June.
The top 10 in the men’s World Ranking underwent only one minor change compared to last week, with Italy’s Samuele Cottafava & Paolo Nicolai taking over the 10th position from Spain’s Pablo Herrera & Adrian Gavira, whose Nuvali 2023 points expired.
Nuvali 2024 winners Jacob Holting Nilsson & Elmer Andersson jumped 10 spots up in comparison to last week or 28 spots up in comparison to two weeks ago. After two back-to-back Challenge trophies over the past two weeks, the Swedish teenagers are now ranked 33rd in the world. Runners-up Paul Henning & Lui Wust of Germany joined the top 100, rocketing 70 spots up to number 95, while bronze medallists Joaquin Bello & Javier Bello of England shifted just one spot up, but reached a career-high 16th place.
