Swedish youngsters Jacob Holting Nilsson & Elmer Andersson came out on top of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking for the first time in their careers with the most recent update of the chart after the end of last week’s Saquarema Elite on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. This week’s changes to the World Ranking were affected not only by this year’s Saquarema Elite results, but also by the expiration of the points earned at the same event in 2025, which are now beyond their 365-day validity.

21-year-old Jacob Holting Nilsson and 19-year-old Elmer Andersson, 2025 FIVB World Championship silver medalists, earned 1,100 World Ranking points with the silver medal they took in Brazil last week. However, they did not compete in Saquarema last year, hence they had no points from that tournament to expire. They still had to drop 600 points from their previous eighth best result within the past 365 days, but the 500 the young Swedes net-gained were enough to lift them to the top of the World Ranking for the first time along their beach volleyball journey. They accumulated a new score of 8,260 points, enough to surpass all three teams that were ahead of them last week. The highest Holting Nilsson & Andersson had ever reached in the World Ranking before was the second place.
Norway’s Anders Mol & Christian Sorum, who won gold in Saquarema last week, also won gold in Saquarema last year. So, their World Ranking score of 8,060 points remained unchanged. So did their position in the chart, number two.
The previous number one team, however, reigning world and Olympic champions David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden, made it “only” to the quarterfinals last week and added 760 points to their World Ranking score. Last year they took silver in Saquarema and now the 1,100 points that came with that are gone. The Swedish team suffered a net loss of 340 points and not only gave up the leading position in the chart, but fell to third place, on a total of 7,860 points.
Brazil’s Evandro Oliveira & Arthur Mariano Lanci were the third duo overtaken by Holting Nilsson & Andersson and they descended to fourth place.
Meanwhile, Saquarema bronze medalists Martins Plavins & Kristians Fokerots of Latvia climbed a spot to number six, just below Netherlands’ Stefan Boermans & Yorick de Groot, who are currently not competing together, and just above Qatar’s Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan, who are yet to make their first appearance on the 2026 Beach Pro Tour.
USA’s Kristen Cruz & Taryn Brasher, the number one team in the women’s World Ranking, took gold at Saquarema 2026, one better than their silver at Saquarema 2025. They pocketed 100 points towards a new total of 8,500 points, now 360 clear on top of the chart.
The Brazilian pairs in the next two positions swapped their spots. Carol Solberg & Rebecca Cavalcanti, who finished fourth in Saquarema last week and ninth in Saquarema a year ago, netted 140 points and surpassed compatriots Thamela Coradello & Victoria Lopes into second place in the World Ranking on 8,140 points. Thamela & Victoria won the event in 2025, but finished fifth in 2026, suffering a net loss of 440 points and dropping to third place in the chart on 7,800.
Last week’s runners-up Melissa Humana-Paredes & Brandie Wilkerson of Canada climbed three spots up the ranking to number six, just below fourth-ranked world champions Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia and fifth-ranked Olympic champions Ana Patricia Ramos & Eduarda Lisboa (Duda) of Brazil.
Switzerland’s Tanja Huberli & Nina Brunner, a former world’s number two team, who reunited after Brunners’ baby break and claimed Saquarema bronze upon their return to international competition together, re-entered the World Ranking into position 149 on a newly gained 1,000 points.
