Huerta will be Gavira's sixth partner

After 16 years, Spanish veteran Adrián Gavira is set to appear with a new partner on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour in 2025. Looking for a teammate since the retirement of his longtime partner Pablo Herrera, the four-time Olympian announced his decision this week, revealing in a social media post that 26-year-old Alejandro Huerta will be by his side in the next international season.

“It’s always hard to end a cycle, but new paths are created and it’s my pleasure to present you ours. The new project will begin in a few weeks and we’re approaching it with a lot of confidence and determination. We hope that with a lot of effort and work, we can continue to make you happy,” read the message.

A silver medalist at the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball U17 World Championship, Huerta has been consistently competing at the international level since 2018. He spent the majority of his career with his older brother Javier, with who he won gold at last year’s Madrid Futures and bronze at the 2018 FIVB World Tour Bangkok one star.

Between 2019 and 2021, Huerta shared the court with Cesar Menendez and the team’s highlight was winning bronze at the 2019 World Tour one-star event in Baden.

Gavira and Huerta have shared the courts on three occasions when Herrera was injured, having appeared together in the final World Tour event, held in Itapema, Brazil, in 2021, where they finished 17th, and the King of the Court tournaments in Doha and Hamburg, in 2022.

One of the most accomplished Spanish players ever, the 37-year-old Gavira won 24 international medals, including four golds, during his 16 years of partnership with the legendary Herrera, who retired after the Paris Olympics, which marked the team’s fourth-straight appearance in the Games.

He also had four other partners in international events, having had the most success with Inocencio Lario, with who he won a silver medal on the World Tour.
