A one-off Austrian partnership between experienced 31-year-old Christoph Dressler and 19-year-old hopeful Tim Berger produced the best possible result as the newly formed pair cruised through the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Brussels Futures victoriously to pick up the men’s gold. Israel’s Eylon Elazar & Kevin Cuzmiciov and Poland’s Piotr Janiak & Jedrzej Brozyniak completed the podium. Finnish standouts Niina Ahtiainen & Taru Lahti-Liukkonen were impeccable on the way to the women’s title in Belgium. The silver went to Germany’s Janne Uhl & Paula Schurholz while home favourites Sarah Cools & Lisa Van Den Vonder settled for bronze.

Dressler & Berger achieved five wins in five matches played at the tournament to celebrate Dressler’s second Beach Pro Tour gold, after his Sveti Vlas Futures trophy earlier this year, and Berger’s second gold, after his 2023 Mallorca Futures victory, and fourth overall podium. In the semifinals, they earned a hard-fought 2-1 (21-13, 19-21, 15-10) win over fellow Austrians Paul Pascariuc & Laurenz Leitner, who emerged from the tournament’s qualifiers. In the final, the second-seeded Austrian pair mounted a 2-1 (18-21, 21-19, 15-12) comeback from a set down against Elazar & Cuzmiciov.

The ninth-seeded Israeli duo had to play tie-breakers in five of their six matches in Brussels to finish on a 4-2 win-loss record and claim the team’s second Beach Pro Tour medal, after another silver at the Corigliano Rossano Futures last year. In their semifinal, 23-year-old Elazar and 20-year-old Cuzmiciov achieved a 2-1 (21-23, 21-17, 15-9) turnaround against fourth-seeded Janiak & Brozyniak.

The pair experienced 35-year-old Polish athletes bounced back with a 2-0 (23-21, 21-16) victory over Pascariuc & Leitner in the third place match to collect their fifth Beach Pro Tour medal.

Third-seeded Ahtiainen & Lahti left no doubts over their superiority in the women’s tournament, flying to the gold without dropping a set in five matches played. In the semifinals, the Finns disappointed the home crowd with a 2-0 (22-20, 21-16) shutout of top-seeded Cools & Van Den Vonder and followed up with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) sweep of the gold medal match against ninth-seeded Uhl & Schurholz. For the pairing of 31-year-old Lahti and 27-year-old Ahtiainen, the Brussels gold was the second Futures gold, after Helsinki 2023. They also have two podiums at the Challenge level, with a Maldives gold in 2022 and a Chiang Mai silver in 2023.

After a 2-0 (21-13, 21-19) sweep of the all-German semifinal against sixth-seeded Sandra Ittlinger & Kim Van de Velde, 18-year-old Uhl and 22-year-old Schurholz secured their second Beach Pro Tour medal, after the Bujunbura Futures bronze in 2023.

27-year-old Cools and 25-year-old Van Den Vonder pleased the Belgian fans in Brussels with the bronze. In the third place game, they delivered a 2-0 (23-21, 21-15) shutout of Ittlinger & Van de Velde and picked up the team’s fifth consecutive and sixth overall Beach Pro Tour medal.
