Taiana Lima/Talita (BRA) vs. Carol/Rebecca (BRA) - Final 1st Place #75861775

USA’s Kristen Nuss & Taryn Brasher enjoyed being the world’s number one women’s team for two weeks after their FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship silver, but after skipping the last Elite event on the 2025 Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour calendar in Itapema, they had to step down and give up the crown to another team that climbed on top of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking for the first time – Itapema winners Carol Solberg & Rebecca Cavalcanti of Brazil.

Carol & Rebecca collected 1,200 ranking points along with their Itapema Elite gold in Brazil last week and, after dropping their old eighth best result of 760 points from their score, they netted 440 points towards a new total of 8,440, enough to propel them to the top of the World Ranking, 200 points clear of compatriots and former number one Thamela Coradello & Victoria Lopes. Before Itapema, the two teams shared the second place in the World Ranking, but Thamela & Victoria also medaled in Brazil with bronze and improved their score by a net of 240 points to surpass Nuss & Brasher by 40 points, leaving the Americans in third place.

It is the first time Carol & Rebecca stand together as the world’s number one team. Just until about nine months ago in March 2025, Carol was in the number one spot together with her previous partner Barbara Seixas. The highest ranking Rebecca has ever reached with her previous partner Agatha Bednarczuk was the second place.

The rest of the top 10 remained unchanged after this week’s update of the World Ranking, with reigning world champions Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia in fourth place, followed by reigning Olympic champions Ana Patricia Ramos & Eduarda Lisboa (Duda) of Brazil in fifth, USA’s Terese Cannon & Megan Kraft and Molly Shaw & Kelly Cheng in sixth and seventh, Germany’s Svenja Muller & Cinja Tillmann in eighth, Italy’s Valentina Gottardi & Reka Orsi Toth in ninth, and Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes & Brandie Wilkerson in 10th.

Meanwhile, Itapema Challenge silver medalists Talita Antunes & Taiana Lima of Brazil jumped as many as 21 positions up the chart to number 36.

France’s Elouan Chouikh-Barbez & Joadel Gardoque, the sensational winners of the men’s Itapema Elite tournament, gained 11 spots in the men’s World Ranking and rose to a new team-high 37th place. The highest they had ever reached in the past was the 43rd place.

Itapema silver medalists Martins Plavins & Kristians Fokerots of Latvia made a leap of seven positions up to number eight, while Brazilian bronze medalists Evandro Oliveira & Arthur Mariano Lanci ascended one spot from number five to number four.

Norwegian legends Anders Mol & Christian Sorum remained on top of the World Ranking, while two Swedish teams – Jacob Holting Nilsson & Elmer Andersson and reigning world and Olympic champions David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig – share the second place on equal points. Netherlands’ Stefan Boermans & Yorick de Groot, Qatar’s Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan and Czechia’s Ondrej Perusic & David Schweiner line up from fifth to seventh, while Poland’s Michal Bryl & Bartosz Losiak and Cuba’s Noslen Diaz & Jorge Alayo complete the top 10.
