Top-seeded Basey & Hurst lived up to their status and cruised through the tournament without dropping a single set along the way to the first Beach Pro Tour gold for either of them. Earlier this year, the American duo also picked up a silver medal at the Mount Maunganui Futures in New Zealand, their first Tour podium together. 22-year-old Basey and 21-year-old Hurst crowned their quest in Tahiti with a 2-0 (21-12, 21-18) sweep of Thursday’s final against Tari & Niemeier. Before that, in the semifinals, the Americans beat Doczi & Veress also in straight sets, 2-0 (21-18, 21-19).

After losing their opening game in Tahiti, 19-year-old Tari and 18-year-old Niemeier went on a four-match winning streak to reach the final. In their semifinal game, the seventh-seeded Hungarians came back from a set down to take a 2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 15-10) victory over Australian qualifiers Harley Sinclair & Jett Rocker-Graham and secure their first ever Beach Pro Tour podium as a team.

Just days after crowning their Beach Pro Tour debut as a pair with a Rarotonga Futures gold, 19-year-old Veress and 22-year-old Doczi made the podium at their second appearance together as well, this time with bronze. The only match the third-seeded Hungarians lost in Tahiti was their semifinal against the champions-to-be. They recovered with a 2-0 (21-12, 22-20) sweep of the third-place game against Sinclair & Rocker-Graham.

24 men’s duos representing 10 different federations took part in the Tahiti Futures.

The next Futures stop on the Beach Pro Tour will be held in Madrid, Spain, also a single-gender men’s event, from May 7 to 10.
