Evandro & Arthur Lanci climb to world’s number two for the first time!

The leading Brazilian men’s pair of Evandro Oliveira & Arthur Mariano Lanci rose to number two in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking for the first time along their journey together as a team. The chart was updated on Monday, after the end of last week’s Rio de Janeiro Elite on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, but some major movements were stirred not only by the results of the tournament in Brazil, but also by the expiration of the points from last year’s CEV European Championships in Duesseldorf, which are now beyond their 365-day validity. In addition to Evandro & Arthur Lanci, Rio winners Martins Plavins & Kristians Fokerots of Latvia, Rio bronze medalists Teo Rotar & Arnaud Gauthier-Rat of France, as well as Brazil’s Andre Stein & Renato Lima also reached new heights for their teams in the World Ranking.

FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking – Men

Evandro & Artur Lanci stopped just short of making the semifinals at the Rio de Janeiro Elite, and the 760 points collected with the fifth place were equal to their previous eighth best result, so their total score of 7,680 points remained unchanged. However, reigning world and Olympic champions David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig of Sweden, who skipped the tournament in Brazil, lost the 760 points they had earned as EuroBeachVolley 2025 silver medalists and only had 600 to replenish with as their new eighth best result over the past one year. So, the Swedish jump-setters dropped from 7,780 to 7,620 points and from second to third place in the World Ranking, making way for Evandro & Artur Lanci to step up from number three to number two, their team’s all-time high.

Leaders Jacob Holting Nilsson & Elmer Andersson of Sweden also skipped Rio, but their score was not affected and they remained on top of the chart with a total of 8,360 points.

Rio Elite champions Plavins & Fokerots net-gained half of the 1,200 points they earned in Brazil and climbed to number four in the World Ranking for the first time in the team’s history, on a new total of 7,500 points, surpassing Rio Elite silver medalists Remi Bassereau Daubas & Calvin Aye of France and EuroBeachVolley 2025 champions Anders Mol & Christian Sorum of Norway on the way up from the sixth position. With a net gain of 380 points, Daubas & Aye stayed in fifth place with a total of 7,420 points, while Mol & Sorum, who have not appeared on the Beach Pro Tour since April, dropped to sixth on 6,680 out of seven qualifying tournaments, after losing the full 800 points that came with their continental title last year.

Rotar & Gauthier-Rat, who took the bronze in Brazil on Sunday, pocketed 400 of the 1,000 new points earned and ascended from number eight to the duo’s new high – number seven – on 6,340 points, overtaking the team they beat in the third-place match – Austria’s Timo Hammarberg & Tim Berger, who net-gained 300 points towards a new total of 6,280.

Argentina’s Tomas Capogrosso & Nicolas Capogrosso and Brazil’s Andre & Renato, who were number 10 and number 11 last week and both achieved fifth-place finishes in Rio, both surpassed Poland’s Michal Bryl & Bartosz Losiak in the World Ranking. For the Brazilian duo as such, it meant the first time in the top 10 of the chart.

FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking – Women

There wasn’t so much movement in the women’s top 10. Rio Elite winners Katja Stam & Raisa Schoon of the Netherlands, a former number one team in the world, now moved up from number six last week to number four after their triumph in Brazil. They added 600 points towards a new total of 7,520 and overtook both world champions Tina Graudina & Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia and Olympic champions Ana Patricia Ramos & Eduarda Lisboa (Duda) of Brazil, neither of whom appeared in the Rio sand last week.

Rio Elite runners-up Carol Solberg & Rebecca Cavalcanti of Brazil improved their score by 340 points to widen the gap on top of the World Ranking. The number one team now has a total of 8,540 points, 940 clear of the two teams sharing the second place – compatriots Thamela Coradello & Victoria Lopes, whose ninth-place finish last week did not improve their overall score, and USA’s Kristen Cruz & Taryn Brasher, who did not play in Rio.

The rest of the top 10 remained intact, with Germany’s Svenja Muller & Cinja Tillmann, Italy’s Valentina Gottardi & Reka Orsi Toth, Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes & Brandie Wilkerson and Germany’s Sandra Ittlinger & Anna-Lena Grune lined up in that order from number seven to number 10.

USA’s Kelly Cheng & Megan Kraft, who took bronze in Rio last week, surged from number 29 to number 16 on a total of 4,900 points out of only six qualifying tournaments.
