Melissa and Brandie go for home three-peat at Montréal Elite

The top Canadian team competing on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour and one of the very best in the entire world, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson will try to make their country proud another time this week when they compete at home in the Montréal Elite.

The Paris 2024 Olympic silver medalists enter the event, which will be held from Wednesday to Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau, as the main hopes of the host country of winning gold, repeating what they did on the two other occasions when Montréal welcomed the Beach Pro Tour, in 2023 and 2025.

Melissa, 33, and Brandie, 34, stood at the top of the podium and pleased the home fans in the last two international events that headed to Montréal, becoming the first Canadian team to triumph in the city following victories of duos from the United States and Brazil in past FIVB World Tour events. They dropped only one of the 13 matches they played in the city and enter this year's tournament coming from 12 consecutive victories in the past seasons.

Placed ninth in the FIVB World Ranking, the Canadian stars will be looking for their second gold on the Beach Pro Tour in 2026 following their victory in Ostrava in May. The two appeared in only four of the seven Elite events held this season and produced mixed results, taking silver in Saquarema and finishing fifth in Hamburg and 19th in Gstaad.

Montréal Elite - Women's Entry List

With Brazil's Carol Salgado/Rebecca Cavalcanti and Thâmela Coradello/Victoria Lopes, who are first and second in the FIVB World Ranking, and reigning world champions Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia all making the trip to Montréal, Melissa and Brandie will have plenty of strong opponents standing between them and the gold medals.

Neighboring the United States took advantage of the short trip and will have as many as nine teams competing this week in Canada, four of which start the tournament directly in the main draw - Kristen Cruz/Taryn Brasher, Julia Donlin/Lexy Denaburg, Kelly Cheng/Megan Kraft and Savvy Cory/Devon Newberry.

The women will first get on the court on Wednesday, when 16 teams will play for the four remaining main draw spots in the qualifier. Pool play begins on Thursday and continues until Friday, with the 16 main draw duos split into four pools of four.

Montréal Elite - Match Schedule

The four pool winners advance directly to the quarterfinals, while teams ranked second and third play in the Round of 12 - both rounds will take place on Saturday. The semifinals and medal matches end the event on Sunday.
