Two American pairs – Miles Partain & Travis Mewhirter and Kamila Tan & Natalie Myszkowski – earned the gold medals at the Pompano Beach Futures that came to an end on Sunday in the United States. Tristan Frobel & Tamo Wust of Germany and Gustavs Auzins & Ernests Puskundzis of Latvia claimed the men’s silver and bronze, respectively. Spain’s Nazaret Florian & Adriana Serrano celebrated silver in the women’s tournament, while another American duo – Maya Gessner & Carly Kan – completed the podium with bronze.

Paris 2024 Olympian Miles Partain, who also participated in the recent FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide, appeared at the Pompano Beach Futures on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour with a new partner, Travis Mewhirter. Seeded first in the men’s main draw, Partain & Mewhirter went through the tournament undefeated, dropping only a set on the way to the trophy. In the semifinals, they mastered a 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) shutout of Polish qualifiers Aleksander Czachorowski & Michal Korycki, and in the gold medal showdown, they managed another straight-set victory, 2-0 (21-15, 22-20) over fifth-seeded Germans Tristan Frobel & Tamo Wust. It was the first ever Beach Pro Tour podium for 35-year-old Mewhirter, who had not appeared on the tour since its inaugural 2022 season. For 23-year-old Partain, it was the third gold and the sixth medal along his Beach Pro Tour journey.

In their semifinal, the 20-year-old Germans put together a 2-0 (21-18, 21-14) win over fourth-seeded Latvians Gustavs Auzins & Ernests Puskundzis to secure their first Beach Pro Tour podium.

Auzins & Puskundzis, also 20 years old, bounced back with a hard-fought 2-1 (22-20, 18-21, 15-12) victory over Czachorowski & Korycki in the third-place game and picked up the bronze. For two-time age-category world champion Auzins, it was the fourth Beach Pro Tour medal, while for his partner Puskundzis, it was the third. However, it was the first Beach Pro Tour podium for the two as a duo.

Sixth-seeded Kamila Tan & Natalie Myszkowski also cruised through the Pompano Beach Futures women’s competition unbeaten and lost their only set of the tournament in the 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-10) gold medal match against fourth-seeded Spaniards Nazaret Florian & Adriana Serrano. It was the first Beach Pro Tour gold for either of the two Americans, and while it was the second medal for 31-year-old Tan, after the Mount Maunganui Futures silver at the start of this season, for her 22-year-old teammate, it was the first podium on the tour.

Tan & Myszkowski hammered out a 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) sweep of their semifinal against eighth-seeded Maya McNabney & Emma Kunaus of Canada. In the other semifinal, Florian & Serrano came back from a set down to overcome the resistance of American qualifiers Maya Gessner & Carly Kan and celebrate a 2-1 (11-21, 21-18, 15-13) win, which guaranteed the first Beach Pro Tour podium for 20-year-old Serrano. Florian had already collected two previous medals on the tour.

Seventh-seeded Gessner & Kan snatched the bronze after a 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) shutout of McNabney & Kunaus in the third-place playoff, and finished the tournament on a 6-1 win-loss record. 30-year-old Kan had already picked up a couple of (gold) medals on the Beach Pro Tour before, while 23-year-old Gessner was on the podium for the first time.

28 men’s and 28 women’s duos representing 25 different national federations from all five continental confederations took part in the Pompano Beach Futures.

The next Futures event is set to take place in Laginha Beach, Cape Verde from December 11 to 14.
