Czech duos celebrate home gold in Brno

Dvornikova & Brinkova and Sepka & Sedlak top Futures podiums in Czechia

Valerie Dvornikova & Michaela Brinkova and Jakub Sepka & Jiri Sedlak delighted the Czech fans at home by claiming the gold medals at the Brno Futures on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. Furthermore, an all-Czech final crowned the men’s tournament in Brno, with Adam Waber & Matyas Jezek earning silver. Switzerland’s Florian Breer & Luc Fluckiger completed the podium. The women’s silver went to France’s Elsa Descamps & Anouk Dupin, while Heleene Hollas & Liisa Remmelg of Estonia took the bronze.

Czechia’s 22-year-old Valerie Dvornikova and 23-year-old Michaela Brinkova earned their careers’ first Beach Pro Tour gold, after each of them previously had one podium finish with a different partner. Seeded 11^th in the Brno main draw, they produced five wins in a row to claim the trophy unbeaten. On the way to the final, they battled it out for a 2-1 (15-21, 21-19, 16-14) turnaround in the all-Czech semifinal against fifth-seeded Anna Pospisilova & Daniela Mokra. In the final itself, Dvornikova & Brinkova persevered through another tough three-setter to celebrate a 2-1 (27-29, 21-12, 15-12) comeback victory over France’s Elsa Descamps & Anouk Dupin.

22-year-old Dupin stayed true to the habit of making the podium at every single Beach Pro Tour event she competed at this year and her 2025 medal collection already features two golds, three silvers and a bronze out of six Futures tournaments attended with various partners, in addition to another bronze from 2023. It was the second consecutive medal with Elsa Descamps by her side, after the two picked up silver at the Montpellier Futures last month. For Descamps, it was the fourth podium on the Beach Pro Tour. The second-seeded French pair reached the Brno final on a string of four consecutive wins, which climaxed with a narrow 2-1 (21-12, 19-21, 17-15) semifinal victory over Heleene Hollas & Liisa Remmelg.

The fourth-seeded Estonians bounced back with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) sweep of the third-place match against Pospisilova & Mokra to finish on a 4-1 win-loss record and snatch the bronze, their eighth Beach Pro Tour medal.

Men’s bracket leaders Jakub Sepka & Jiri Sedlak cruised through the tournament in Brno without dropping a single set in five matches played and picked up their second gold and third overall medal on the Beach Pro Tour. The Czech duo put together a 2-0 (21-18, 21-16) sweep of their semifinal game against ninth-seeded Lubos Nemec & Adrian Petruf from neighboring Slovakia and followed up with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) victory over 11^th-seeded compatriots Adam Waber & Matyas Jezek in the gold medal showdown.

Waber & Jezek repeated their silver medal finish at last year’s edition of the Brno Futures and added a second podium to their Beach Pro Tour record. In their semifinal, they managed a hard-fought 2-1 (25-23, 18-21, 15-12) win over eighth-seeded Florian Breer & Luc Fluckiger of Switzerland.

The Swiss team collected their second Beach Pro Tour medal together after delivering a tight 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 15-13) victory over Nemec & Petruf for the bronze.
