Elevated to the top of the World Rankings following its most recent update, earlier this week, the Brazilians played up to their new status in Ostrava, taking gold with six wins in seven matches. In Sunday’s gold medal match, they faced Tina and Anastasija, who had defeated them in pool play on Friday, and displayed a much-improved game to get revenge and secure the title with a sweep (21-16, 21-11).

“It’s my first gold here and I couldn’t be happier,” Thamela said. “The atmosphere here was amazing and we want to thank the fans for it.”

Beach Pro Tour Ostrava Elite – Results

The victory in Ostrava was the second of the Brazilians in the last three tournaments – they also topped the podium in their homesand Saquarema last month -, and the third in eight tournaments as partners. Sharing the court since July 2024, Thamela and Victoria triumphed at the João Pessoa Elite, in October, and won a pair of bronze medals, producing five podium appearances in eight events together.

With the title in the Czech event, the Brazilians, who have 6,820 World Ranking points, add another 1,200, which should improve their lead at the top of the table. Tina and Anastasija, who are fifth in the rankings with 5,360, secure 1,100 more with their second-place finish.

Swiss sisters win first Elite medal

In the bronze medal match, Anouk and Zoé secured their first medal as partners in an Elite event and their second in just four tournaments together – the two took silver in a Futures tournament held in Spiez, Switzerland, last week.

The Swiss defeated another pair of sisters, formed by Austrians Dorina and Ronja Klinger, in the tie-breaker (18-21, 16-21, 15-12) and finished third in Ostrava.

“One year ago, we were here battling against each other for a spot in the Olympics,” Anouk said. “Coming back here was very emotional, but I was very focused on writing a new story with her by my side now and I am super happy that we got rewarded with the bronze medal.”

The next Beach Pro Tour Elite event will be held in Gstaad, Switzerland, from July 2-6. Before that, two Challenge events will take place – the first will be in Alanya, Türkiye, from June 11-15, and the second will be in Warmia Marzury, Poland, from June 25-29.
