Playing in Montréal for the first time in their careers, Perušič and Schweiner are set to make their second appearance in the semifinals of a Beach Pro Tour Elite event in 2025 after taking bronze in their home tournament in Ostrava. The reigning world champions won gold in two Challenge events, in Yucatán and Alanya.

After dropping their last pool match to Brazilians Evandro Gonçalves and Arthur Lanci on Friday, the Czechs found their best game again on Saturday in Montréal and got to the semifinals after producing a smooth two-set (21-13, 21-16) victory over Australian Olympians Izac Carracher and Mark Nicolaidis in the quarterfinals.

Their opponents Mol and Sørum also responded quickly after falling in their last pool match on Friday and overcame Germans Paul Henning and Lui Wüst in straight sets (21-16, 21-15) in the quarterfinals to make it to the medal rounds.

The victory made the Beach Volley Vikings return to the semifinals after finishing fifth in Gstaad last month in the only tournament they didn’t medal in 2025 – Mol and Sørum won gold in Saquarema, silver in Ostrava and bronze in Brasília.

Norwegians and Czechs have met 14 times in international tournaments since 2017, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions have an 11-3 advantage – they also triumphed in the most recent encounter, which happened in the semifinals in Ostrava, when they denied Perušič and Schweiner the opportunity of fighting for gold in front of their home fans.

Swedish meet for the second time in three days

The second semifinal in Montréal will see the top Swedish teams on the Beach Pro Tour battling for the second time in three days. They faced each other in the last round of pool play, on Friday, when Åhman and Hellvig defeated Hölting Nilsson and Andersson for the second time in as many matches in international events.

On Saturday, the reigning Olympic champions earned their spot in the semifinals with a two-set (21-13, 21-16) victory over the Argentinean Capogrosso brothers Nicolas and Tomas in the quarterfinals.
