Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brazilians Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos are set to meet for the first time since they clashed for gold at last year’s Paris Olympics on Sunday, when they will duel for a spot in the gold medal match of this week’s Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Montréal Elite.

The Olympic final rematch will open the semifinal round on the last day of matches at the Parc Jean-Drapeau at 12:00 local time (16:00 GMT) – Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann and Latvians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova will meet one hour later. The winners will return to the sand at 18:00 (22:00 GMT) for the final.

Canadians and Brazilians have entered the same tournament twice after their historic encounter at the feet of the Eiffel Tower just over one year ago, but their paths haven’t crossed until Sunday. Since 2023, the teams have met on six occasions, with Duda and Ana Patrícia coming out on top in five of them.

Fighting to win gold for a second-straight time in Montréal after topping the podium in 2023, Brandie and Melissa continued undefeated in the tournament on Saturday, when they earned their second-straight victory against a Brazilian team at the Parc Jean-Drapeau, taking down FIVB World Ranking leaders Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes in straight sets (21-10, 21-19) in the quarterfinals.

The triumph has placed the Canadians in the semifinals of a Beach Pro Tour event for the first time in the 2025 season. Before heading to Montréal, the Paris Olympic silver medalists were ninth in Saquarema and fifth in Brasília, Ostrava and Gstaad.

Olympic champions Duda and Ana Patrícia continue to enjoy a successful return to international competition after almost four months and are set to appear in the medal rounds for a second-straight time in the season after taking bronze in Brasília.

The Brazilians will get to the last day of matches in Canada with a perfect record of four wins and no sets dropped after they handled the Austrian Klinger sisters Dorina and Ronja in two sets (21-14, 21-18) on Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Germans and Latvians also have a rematch

Set to meet in the other semifinal, Tina/Anastasia and Müller/Tillmann also had a memorable encounter in Paris last year as the Latvians eliminated their opponents in the Round of 16 in a dramatic three-set battle. Over the years, however, the Germans have been more successful, having won four of the seven encounters held, including one during pool play in Montréal on Friday.

As the pool winners, Müller and Tillmann started the Saturday in the quarterfinals and produced a dominant performance to beat Brazilians Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti in straight sets (21-18, 21-14).

The 2024 European champions will make their second semifinal appearance in the 2025 season, having made it to the podium in Saquarema in third place.

Second in the pool, Tina and Anastasija had to play twice on Saturday, but they handled the heavier schedule well, sweeping (21-16, 21-17) Australians Elizabeth Alchin and Georgia Johnson in the Round of 12 and taking Spanish Olympians Daniela Álvarez and Tania Moreno down also in two sets (23-21, 22-20) in the quarterfinals.

On Sunday, Tina and Anastasija will try to make their third-straight gold medal match appearance on the Beach Pro Tour at the Elite level after taking silver in Ostrava and Gstaad.
