Ana Patrícia/Duda (BRA) vs. Alchin/Johnson (AUS) - Pool A #55257867

Duda and Ana Patrícia were in strong form in the second day of matches in Montréal

The return of Olympic champions Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos to international competition continues to go well for the Brazilians, who on Friday won their pool at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite event held in Montréal and earned a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Away from the Beach Pro Tour since April, the Brazilians were among the four teams that finished pool play at the top of their groups at the Parc Jean-Drapeau and will enter the elimination rounds on Saturday directly in the quarterfinals. Another eight duos also continue alive, but will need to go through the Round of 12 after ranking second and third in their pools.

Duda and Ana Patrícia took a few months off after winning gold at the Paris Olympics last year and missed the final events of the Beach Pro Tour 2024 season. The Brazilians returned to action at the start of 2025 and appeared in the Elite events held in Quintana Roo, Saquarema and Brasília, but an injury to Ana Patrícia forced them to sit out the last three and a half months, preventing them from playing in the Elite events held in Ostrava and Gstaad.

After winning their three Pool A matches without dropping sets, Duda and Ana Patrícia certainly don’t look like a team that lacks match rhythm in Montréal. After starting their campaign in Canada with a sweep of Italians Valentina Gottardi on Thursday, they did the same to Australians Elizabeth Alchin and Georgia Johnson on Friday, winning 2-0 (21-15, 21-15).

Already guaranteed in the elimination rounds, the Olympic champions still wanted to finish first in their pool and advance directly to the quarterfinals, which they accomplished with another two-set (21-18, 21-12) victory, this one against FIVB World Ranking leaders and compatriots Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes.

Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann had similar success in Pool B, completing their perfect campaign of three wins and no sets lost on Friday with a sweep (21-12, 22-20) of Latvian Olympians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova.

Canadian Olympic medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes emerged as the top team in Pool D. The two benefited from the support of their home fans to triumph against Brazilians Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti in a hard-fought, three-set (21-17, 13-21, 15-13) battle and advance to the quarterfinals.

In Pool C, Spanish Olympians Daniela Álvarez and Tania Moreno came from behind for the third time in as many pool matches in the last two days to take down Canadians Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse 2-1 (16-21, 21-17, 15-10) and emerge on top.

The four Round of 12 duels in Montréal will have the Swiss Vergé-Dépré sisters Anouk and Zoé facing Carol and Rebecca, Tina and Anastasija meeting Alchin and Jonhson, Thamela and Victoria playing against Americans Julia Donlin and Lexy Denaburg and Germans Sandra Ittlinger and Anna-Lena Grüne dueling with the Austrian Klinger sisters Dorina and Ronja.
