Elite16 - Montreal, CAN - 2025 - Beach Pro Tour 2025 season - News

Scoles/Flint (USA) vs. Melissa/Brandie (CAN) - Final 1st Place #6140426

Canadian Olympic medalist Brandie Wilkerson and partner Melissa Humana-Paredes will try to defend the title they won in 2023

International beach volleyball is back in Montréal this week as two years after successfully hosting a Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite event in 2023, the city is ready to do it again, welcoming the sixth tournament of the category in the 2025 season.

The Canadian city hosted four FIVB World Tour stops between 2002 and 2007, but didn’t get to stage international events for 16 years until the Beach Pro Tour first visited two years ago. In 2025, there will be five days of matches, starting on Wednesday and ending on Sunday, at the Parc Jean-Drapeau.

The two teams that topped the podium in Montréal two years ago will both be back. Among them are Canadian Olympic medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes, who will count on the support of their home fans to push for their first medal in the 2025 season.

Brandie and Melissa, who recently concluded a training camp in Brazil ahead of this week’s event, have played in four of the five Elite tournaments of the season and get to Montréal having finished fifth three consecutive times, in Brasília, Ostrava and Gstaad.

FIVB World Ranking leaders Victoria Lopes and Thamela Coradello of Brazil are also among the candidates to fight for gold in Montréal. Partners for just over a year, they won two golds in five Beach Pro Tour events this year, dominating the tournaments held in Saquarema and Ostrava.

Their compatriots Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti, who took gold in Quintana Roo, fellow Brazilians Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos, the reigning Olympic champions, and Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, who are second in the World Rankings, are other strong candidates to battle for podium placements in Montréal.

Vikings back in Montréal

The last men’s team to triumph in Montréal, formed by Norwegian superstars Anders Mol and Christian Sørum, will also be back in town to defend the title they earned two years ago.

Sitting at the top of the FIVB World Rankings, the Beach Volley Vikings have been in top form in the 2025 season, having won three medals (one gold, one silver, one bronze) in four Beach Pro Tour events and are fresh from their record-setting fifth victory in the European Championship two weeks ago.

The team they defeated in the continental final, Swedish David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig, will also be in Montréal and are determined to win gold. The reigning Olympic champions triumphed in Ostrava this year, beating their Norwegian rivals in the gold medal match.

Other medal contenders on the men’s side in Montréal will be Qatari Olympic medalists Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who topped the podium in the last Elite event, in Gstaad, reigning world champions Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner of Czechia and Brazilian Olympians Evandro Gonçalves and Arthur Lanci, who took silver in Brasília and are looking for their first gold in the season.
