Carol and Rebecca will go for their third medal in a Brazilian event this season

Fresh from making it to the podium of the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide less than two weeks ago, Brazilians Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti are set to return to action on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour.

More than keeping the momentum created with their podium appearance in Australia and ending the 2025 season on a high, the 38-year-old Carol and the 32-year-old Rebecca want to keep their strong results in front of their home fans. Itapema, which is back on the Beach Pro Tour calendar for the first time since 2023, will be the fifth Brazilian city to host an Elite event this year, and the two have been among the most successful teams in the past four tournaments held in the country.

After ranking ninth in Saquarema in April, Carol and Rebecca made it to the semifinals of the next three Brazilian events, taking silver in the country's capital Brasília later in the same month, finishing fourth in João Pessoa in September and winning gold in Rio de Janeiro in the same month.

Their compatriots Thâmela Coradello and Victoria Lopes, who they defeated in the bronze medal match in Australia, are also entered in this week's event at the Meia Praia Beach. The two, who also have good results in the previous Brazilian events, having won gold in Saquarema and silver in Rio, will be determined to return to the top of the FIVB World Rankings, after being passed by Americans Taryn Brasher and Kristen Nuss last week - they are now tied with Carol and Rebecca in second place with 8,000 points, 200 behind the Americans.

Besides the two semifinalists, six other teams that competed at the World Championship two weeks ago made the trip to play in Brazil this week - Ukraine's Valentyna Davidova/Anhelina Khmil, Italy's Giada Bianch/Claudia Scampoli, Puerto Rico's Maria Gonzalez/Allanis Navas and Japan's Reika Murakami/Asami Shiba, who finished 17th, and Brazil's Vitória Rodrigues/Hegeile 'Hegê' Almeida and Lithuania's Monika Paulikiene/Aine Raupelyte, who ranked 37th in Australia.

Evandro and Arthur lead the way among the men

On the men's side, the highest-ranked team at the World Championship that entered to play this week also comes from the home country. Paris Olympians Evandro Gonçalves and Arthur Lanci, who got a fifth-place finish in Adelaide, are the top-seeded team in the men's tournament this week in Itapema.

Like their compatriots, the two have also amassed solid results on Beach Pro Tour events held in Brazil this season, having won gold in João Pessoa and silver in Brasília.
