Elite16 - Hamburg, GER - 2025 - Beach Pro Tour 2025 season - News

Mol, A./Sørum, C. (NOR) vs. Plavins/Fokerots (LAT) - Semifinals #57395555

Mol and Sørum successfully defended the title they won in Hamburg in 2024

Hamburg continues to feel like home for Norwegian superstars Anders Mol and Christian Sørum on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour as the Beach Volley Vikings won their third gold in the German city on Sunday, triumphing in the seventh Elite event of 2025.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalists entered the week determined to defend the title they had won in the city last year, and they did it, topping the podium at Am Rothenbaum Stadium, having second-placed Polish Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak and third-placed Dutch Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot by their side.

Undefeated in their six matches in Hamburg, the Norwegians faced Bryl and Łosiak for the second time in as many days on Sunday and repeated what they had done in the Round of 12 on Saturday, triumphing 2-0 (25-23, 21-14) to take the title.

Mol and Sørum’s victory further consolidated the Norwegians as the most successful team in Hamburg, as the city has hosted eight international tournaments since 2016, and the Beach Volley Vikings medaled in five of them, taking gold in 2018, 2024 and 2025 and claiming bronze in 2019, at the World Championship, and 2023.

The triumph also capped off what has been an incredible month of August for the Norwegians, who won 17 of the 18 matches they played over the last 31 days, taking gold at the Montréal and the Hamburg Elites and the European Championship.

“It’s amazing to win another tournament here in Hamburg,” Sørum commented. “It was a true team effort. We have a big team behind us working many hours a day for us to perform. Poland played amazingly all tournament, it feels great to beat them and win gold again here in Hamburg.”

Dutch repeat as bronze medal winners

Two hours before the gold medal match, Boermans and de Groot defeated Latvians Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots in straight sets (21-16, 21-10) in the bronze medal match and secured their last spot in the podium, repeating the result they achieved in Hamburg last year.

It was the fourth medal won by the Dutch in just five Beach Pro Tour Elite events this season – they won gold in Brasília and bronze in Saquarema, Gstaad and Hamburg.

“Our side out has been pretty solid this season,” de Groot reflected. “And we’ve been able to combine it with good blocking, good serving, and some digs here and there. But the most important thing is that we always keep fighting and trying to battle our way back into matches, and luckily for us, it has led us to winning four medals in five events so far.”
