Victoria makes a one-handed dig during the all-Brazilian quarterfinal against Carol and Rebecca

Brazil will be represented in the women’s podium of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Hamburg Elite for a third-straight season after the country had two teams – Thamela Coradello/Victoria Lopes and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa/Ana Patrícia Ramos – advancing to the tournament’s semifinals on Saturday.

The Brazilian duos will meet on Sunday, at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT), at the Am Rothenbaum Stadium, one hour after Germany’s Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann and Italy’s Valentina Gottardi/Reka Orsi Toth play in the first semifinal. The FIVB World Ranking leaders, Thamela and Victoria are one win away from returning to the podium in Hamburg for a second-straight year after taking bronze in 2024. The Brazilians were in excellent form on Saturday and won both their matches in straight sets.

They started the day in the Round of 12, where they downed French Olympians Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau 2-0 (21-16, 21-18). A few hours later, in the quarterfinals, Thamela and Victoria defeated compatriots Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti also in two sets (21-18, 21-17).

Reigning Olympic champions Duda and Ana Patrícia had a more challenging day on Saturday, winning a pair of tie-breakers to return to the semifinals in Hamburg two years after they won gold in the German city.

The Brazilians started the day in the Round of 12, where they came from behind to overcome Czechs Markéta Svozilová and Marie-Sára Štochlová 2-1 (25-27, 21-13, 17-15). Later, in the quarterfinals, they eliminated Latvian Olympians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova also in three sets (21-19, 19-21, 15-11).

Before Sunday’s encounter, the Brazilians duos have met twice in international tournaments and Duda and Ana Patrícia won on both occasions, including the most recent of them, two weeks ago in Montréal.

Germans go for third-straight medal

Representing the host country in the semifinals for a third-straight season, Müller and Tillmann will try to make it to the podium in front of their home fans in three consecutive years, hopefully winning gold this time after taking bronze in 2023 and silver in 2024.

The Germans eliminated compatriots Paula Schürholz and Lea Kunst in two sets (21-16, 21-18) in the Round of 12 and earned a forfeit victory against Finnish Taru Lahti and Niina Ahtiainen, who couldn’t finish their quarterfinal match due to an injury.

Their opponents Gottardi and Orsi Toth are set to make their first semifinal appearance together in Hamburg – Gottardi was fourth last year with former partner Marta Menegatti. The Europeans eliminated two German duos on their way to the semifinals, beating Linda Bock and Louisa Lippmann 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 18-16) in the Round of 12 and sweeping (21-15, 22-20) Sandra Ittlinger and Anna-Lena Grüne in the quarterfinals.
