Brasher lifts Nuss in the team's trademark celebration

Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher will get to hold onto their golden cowbells for another year after the American Olympians triumphed at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Gstaad Elite for a second-straight season, winning the 2025 edition of the tournament on Sunday.

This time, the two stepped on the podium flanked by Latvian Olympians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova, who took silver, and Swiss sisters Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré, who claimed bronze.

Dominant throughout the entire tournament, the Americans ended their undefeated campaign in the Swiss Alps with six victories and just one set lost. They kept their strong rhythm on Sunday’s gold medal match, sweeping (21-19, 21-18) Tina and Anastasija to secure the title.

“Kristen was a rock, she was super calm the entire time and we just trusted our side,” Brasher said. “But huge congrats to Tina and Anastasia, they’re obviously amazing and it’s always really fun to play them.”

With the victory, the two became the sixth women’s team to win consecutive titles in Gstaad, joining compatriots Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor, who did it in 2002-2004 and 2006-2006, and Brazil’s Adriana Behar/Shelda Bede (2000-2001), Juliana Felisberta/Larissa França (2010-2011), Talita Antunes/Larissa França (2014-2015) and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa/Ana Patrícia Ramos (2022-2023).

It was also their second victory in five Beach Pro Tour events in 2025 – the first was in Brasília, in April. Nuss and Brasher also won bronze in Quintana Roo and silver in Saquarema in the current season.

Anouk and Zoé take Switzerland to the podium

Despite having two teams in the semifinals, hosts Switzerland couldn’t take gold in Gstaad this weekend. They did, however, get a team on the podium for the first time since 2012 after the Vergé-Dépré sisters downed compatriots Tanja Hüberli and Leona Kernen in straight sets (21-17, 21-11) in the bronze medal match.

It was the fourth-straight podium appearance for Anouk and Zoé, who also won silver in the Spiez Futures, bronze in the Ostrava Elite and gold in the Alanya Challenge.

“Winning a cowbell is a childhood dream for us,” Anouk said. “We both came out here as young kids and watched the matches from the stands. So, to win a cowbell is super emotional, even more with my sister.”
