Seeded first and second respectively in the third Challenge event of the season, Swiss and Italians lived up to the expectations over the week and get to Sunday’s gold medal match in Alanya not only undefeated, but also having yet to drop a set after five matches.

Both teams secured a pair of victories on Saturday on their way to the final match of this week’s event and, for the Swiss sisters, they were earned against Ukrainians Yeva Serdiuk and Daria Romaniuk, who they swept (21-17, 21-18) in the quarterfinals, and Vieira and Chamereau, who they handled in straight sets (21-19, 21-16) a few hours later in the semifinals.

The Swiss, who each got to represent their country in one of the last two Olympic editions, became partners in the 2025 season and are on the verge of securing their first title as partners. Anouk and Zoé are coming from two podium appearances at different levels of the Beach Pro Tour, as they took silver in the Spiez Futures and earned bronze in the Ostrava Elite in their last two events.

“It feels really good,” Anouk, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Games, said. “It was really hot today in the afternoon and we had to get a good rest between matches. We were very focused on this match, and we gave it all. It’s great to be in the final match of this tournament, and we’ll try and rest so we can bring all we have again.”

Italians go for their first title

Gottardi, a Paris Olympian, and Orsi Toth, joined forces a few months before the Swiss, having played their first tournament as partners in November 2024, and will also chase their first title together. Gottardi has, however, already won gold in the 2025 Beach Pro Tour season, having triumphed in the season-opening Yucatán Challenge with Scampoli.

The two are set to win their first medals together after finishing fifth in their last three events, and to do it, they needed to defeat Czechs Marketa Svozilova and Marie-Sára Štochlová in straight sets (21-19, 21-12) in the quarterfinals and compatriots Scampoli and Bianchi also 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) in the semifinals.

“We train with Claudia and Giada, and it’s always tough to play them,” Gottardi said. “But Reka was incredible, we were able to play well, and we’re ready for tomorrow. It’s going to be our first medal together, and we want it to be gold.”

Despite both teams being new on the Beach Pro Tour, they already faced each other, and it happened two weeks ago, when Anouk and Zoé eliminated Gottardi and Orsi Toth in the quarterfinals of the Ostrava Elite with a three-set victory.
