Partners since 2009, the Spanish will play Dutch Stefan Boermans and Yorick De Groot in the first semifinal of the men’s tournament at the Am Rothenbaum Stadium, at 12:00 local time (10:00 GMT). One hour later, Norway’s Anders Mol/Christian Sørum and Italy’s Paolo Nicolai/Samuele Cottafava will meet in the second semifinal – the gold medal match is scheduled for 19:00 (17:00).

With the 42-year-old Herrera, a six-time Olympian, set to end his international career after the Hamburg Elite16, the Spanish are sharing the courts for the 160th and final time this week. Fresh from their best Olympic campaign as partners, having finished fifth in Paris 2024 two weeks ago, the Europeans recovered from a pair of pool play losses to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

The two started the day in the Round of 12, where they used their experience to beat young Austrians Tim Berger and Timo Hammarberg 2-1 (22-24, 21-16, 15-11). In the quarterfinals, the Spaniards met Argentinean brothers Nicolas and Tomas Capogrosso and prevailed with a 2-0 (25-23, 21-17) victory.

Their semifinal opponents, Boermans and De Groot had a lighter day in Hamburg on Saturday as they started the day in the quarterfinals, where they beat Brazilians Arthur Mariano and Adrielson dos Santos 2-0 (21-15, 21-14).

The same happened in the fourth and last quarterfinal duel of the day, with Nicolai and Cottafava showing strength to eliminate Australian Olympians Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) victory and advance to the semifinals for the second time in the season.
