Duda and Ana Patrícia, who went undefeated in their pool in Hamburg with just one set lost, started the elimination rounds in the quarterfinals and displayed a strong performance against reigning European champions Nina Brunner and Tanja Hüberli of Switzerland, advancing to the semifinals with an emphatic two-set (21-15, 21-13) victory.
“It was a great match against the Swiss,” Ana Patrícia reflected. “They’re a very strong team and were really difficult opponents. Our matches against them are always complicated and it was the exact same this time, but fortunately, we managed to get into a good rhythm and secure this victory, which is so important to us.”
With their triumph in the quarterfinals, the Brazilians return to the semifinals on the Beach Pro Tour after missing it out last month, in Montréal, when they finished fifth. Before the Canadian event, the world champions had made four-straight podium appearances at Elite16 events, winning two golds, one silver and one bronze.
