UNI Opole upset Budowlani and keep rising in the Tauron Liga

Now undefeated in over a month in the 2025-2026 Tauron Liga, UNI Opole won their fifth straight match in the tournament on Saturday, passed the two teams from Łódź at once, and ended the seventh leg of the regular season in second place in the standings.

The team entered the week in fourth place and won a direct duel with then-second-placed PGE Budowlani Łódź, who were undefeated in their last five matches, on Saturday, prevailing 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-13) on the road and continued to rise in the Polish League.

The road victory in Łódź took UNI Opole up to second place in the standings with 15 points (five wins, two losses), trailing only defending champions KS DevelopRes Rzeszów, who got to 19 (six wins, one loss) this weekend. On their way up, they passed both Budowlani, who are now third with 15 points (five wins, two losses), and ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, who dropped to fourth with 14 (four wins, two losses).

With that, the team from Southern Poland has gained an impressive eight positions in the standings since the start of their winning streak, a month ago - they were tenth at the conclusion of the second leg after losing to DevelopRes.

Mexican outside hitter Uxue Guereca was in top form for UNI Opole against Budowlani and led the team to victory with an MVP performance that generated 15 points (12 kills, two aces, one block). Team captain and opposite Katarzyna Zaroślinska-Król also had a key role in their success, contributing 14 points, with ten kills and four blocks.

Outside hitter Karolina Drużkowska came off the bench in the first set and registered 14 points (12 kills, two aces) for Budowlani, being the only player on the team to get to double digits in scoring.

Bielsko-Biała beat Commercecon on the road

Another surprising result contributed to UNI Opole's productive week, as Commercecon went down in the standings after falling 3-2 (18-25, 19-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-11) to sixth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała at home on Friday.

The match's MVP, Estonian opposite Kertu Laak was decisive for Bielsko-Biała, carrying their offense with 24 points (19 kills, three blocks, two aces) and taking home the MVP award. Outside hitter Martyna Borowczak added 15, with 11 kills, three aces and one block.

Opposite Daria Szczyrba was Commercecon's most productive player with 22 points (20 kills, two blocks), followed by Brazilian outside hitter Mariana Brambilla, who left the court with 16, all in kills.

Defending champions DevelopRes were the only team that started the week in the top three to triumph over the weekend in Poland. They played on the road on Sunday and counted on 15 points (14 kills, one ace) from American opposite Taylor Bannister to beat 11th-placed #VolleyWrocław 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 28-26).

The seventh leg of the regular season also had ninth-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno topping 12th-placed EcoHarpoon NOWEL LOS Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) on Thursday, tenth-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec overcoming fifth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 20-25, 25-16) on Friday and seventh-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz downing eighth-placed LOTTO Chemik Police 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-13, 25-22) on Sunday.
