The season-long battle between KS DevelopRes Rzeszów and ŁKS Commercecon Łódź for the top of the standings of the 2024-2025 Polish Women’s Tauron Liga had a fitting end, going until the very last match of the regular season, on Tuesday.

With a victory over defending champions LOTTO Chemik Police, the team from Rzeszów passed their rivals from Łódź for the last time in the season and will enter the playoffs as the top-seeded team in the country. Other important developments of the Tauron Liga Decision Week had ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec claiming the last spot in the postseason and Energa MKS Kalisz being relegated.

Reigning Polish Cup champions DevelopRes needed to get at least the same number of points Commercecon did this week to enter the playoffs in first place. They got the maximum they could, beating Chemik 3-1 (25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16) on Tuesday, in the first match of new coach Stephane Antiga, who replaced the departed Michal Mašek.

Their mission was made easier by the fact that Commercecon dropped points in both matches they played over the week, beating Kaslisz 3-2 (25-10, 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 15-12) on Wednesday and losing to PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 31-29) on Monday, collecting just two points across both matches.

With that, DevelopRes ended the regular season in first place with 56 points, followed by Commercecon, with 55, Budowlani, with 52, and BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała, with 47 – all four teams will have homecourt advantage in the quarterfinal round of the playoff, which starts on Thursday.

Mielec claim last playoff spot

The last spot available in the playoffs went to Mielec, who needed to beat Kalisz on Sunday to end the regular season ahead of UNI Opole and they did it, securing a 3-1 (15-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-20) victory and getting to 26 points in the standings.

The victory pushed the team to seventh place, shaping the encounters of the first round of the playoffs – first-placed DevelopRes will face eighth-placed Chemik, second-placed Commercecon will meet seventh-placed Mielec, third-placed Budowlani will play against sixth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz and fourth-placed Bielsko-Biała will go against fifth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom. The quarterfinal round of the playoffs will be played in a best-of-three series, which starts with the highest-ranked team in the regular season hosting.

Sokół & Hagric avoid relegation

The battle to avoid relegation was even more dramatic and came down to the number of victories after Sokół & Hagric Mogilno and Kalisz both ended their campaigns with 16 points. Despite losing their Monday match to Pałac 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19), Sokół & Hagric ended the season with five wins to Kalisz’s four and secured their permanence in the Polish elite.
