The first weekend of action in the Polish Women’s Tauron Liga in 2025 brought changes to the top of the standings as two teams took advantage of the absence of then-leaders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź to pass them and take the first two spots in the table.

With victories earned in the third leg of the second round, KS DevelopRes Rzeszów and PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź both got to 36 points, passing Commercecon, who remained with 34, but now have a game in hand after their duel against Energa MKS Kalisz was postponed.

DevelopRes returned to first place in the Polish League after three weeks thanks to a solid 3-1 (25-19, 25-13, 18-25, 25-16) road win over fourth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała on Sunday. With 13 victories and just one loss, they have the edge over Budowlani because of their higher number of victories.

Taking Bielsko-Biała down to secure their seventh straight victory in the Tauron Liga was truly a team effort as five DevelopRes players got to double digits in scoring. Outside hitter Monika Fedusio led the team with 18 points (15 kills, two blocks, one ace) and took home the MVP award. Brazilian opposite Sabrina Machado (15), Polish middle blockers Weronika Centka-Tietianiec (13) and Agnieszka Korneluk (12) and Dutch outside hitter Marrit Jasper (12) also had productive performances.

The home side had middle blocker Joanna Pacak (14), outside hitter Julita Piasecka (13) and Estonian opposite Kertu Laak (12) all scoring more than ten points.

Budowlani sweep UNI Opole

Budowlani played earlier in the weekend, and sat at the top of the standing for two days, following their 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 28-26) victory over UNI Opole on Friday. They have the same 36 points as DevelopRes, but won just 12 of their 14 matches.

Up-and-coming outside hitter Paulina Damaske played a major role in their victory, producing a match-high 24 points, with 20 kills, two blocks and two aces. Serbian outside hitter Jelena Blagojević (12) and Slovenian middle blocker Saša Planinšec (11) also stood out, while French outside hitter Guewe Diouf was UNI Opole’s leading scorer with 17 points.

Defending champions LOTTO Chemik Police also had a remarkable weekend, getting to 25 points (five wins, nine losses) after their 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 32-30) victory over ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec on Sunday and jumping from ninth to sixth, getting into the qualification zone.

The weekend in Poland also had two matches on Saturday, with MOYA Radomka Radom beating Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) on the road and Sokół & Hagric Mogilno topping #VolleyWrocław 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 25-27, 25-16) also as visitors.

The fourth leg of the second round of the regular season in Poland will have five matches next weekend – one on Friday, three on Saturday and one on Monday – and another one, the duel between Bielsko-Biała and Chemik, taking place on January 29.
