Polish Women’s Tauron Liga leaders KS DevelopRes Rzeszów successfully defended their spot at the top of the standings in the fourth leg of the second round and are one step closer to ending the regular season as the best team in the country.

DevelopRes were one of the last two teams to enter the court on the weekend, facing Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz on Monday, and, despite a hiccup in the third set, collected all three points they needed to continue in first place, now with 39 points (14 wins, one loss).

Head coach Michal Mašek rested some key starters at the beginning of the match, such as Polish star middle blocker Agnieszka Korneluk, setter Katarina Wenerska, Dutch outside hitter Marrit Jasper and Brazilian opposite Sabrina Machado, but after their third-set loss, he sent some of them to the court and achieved his goal, with DevelopRes securing a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19) victory.

Captain and outside hitter Monika Fedusio led the team with 17 points (12 kills, three blocks, two aces), followed by Brazilian opposite Bruna Honório, one of the new faces in the team’s starting lineup – she had 12 points, all in kills.

The match’s MVP award went to libero Aleksandra Szczygłowska, who contributed 11 passes and 11 digs.

Pałac, who are ninth with 14 points (five wins, ten losses), got 16 points from outside hitter Pola Nowakowska and another 14 from Ukrainian middle blocker Svitlana Dorsman.

Łódź rivals continue on DevelopRes’ trail

Ranked second and third in the Tauron Liga, PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź and ŁKS Commercecon Łódź also triumphed in the weekend, keeping the race for the top of the standings wide open with seven more legs yet to be played before the end of the regular season.

On Saturday, Budowlani went on the road against Sokół & Hagric Mogilno and secured a 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 25-13) victory, getting to 39 points (13 wins, two losses) in the standings. Outside hitter Paulina Damaske shared the team’s scoring load with Italian opposite Terry Enweonwu – each of the team scored 22 points – and took home the MVP award.

On the same day, Commercecon hosted ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec and prevailed 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) to get to 37 points (12 wins, two losses). They got 20 points from Ukrainian opposite Anastasiia Hryshchuk and had Polish national team middle blocker Klaudia Alagierska, who added 13, as the match’s MVP.

MOYA Radomka Radom downed #VolleyWrocław 3-2 (25-27, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17, 15-5) in the first match of the weekend, on Friday, while UNI Opole swept Energa MKS Kalisz 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-16) on Saturday.

With Polish Cup matches set to take place next weekend, the Tauron Liga will have a one-week break before returning on January 23.
