Three teams – NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki, Victorina Himeji and Kurobe Aqua Fairies – stayed unbeaten after the second leg of double headers in the women’s Daido Life SV.League quarterfinals in Japan and lined up in the top three spots of the current standings in that order.

NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki hammered out two straight-set victories at Gunma Green Wings to improve to a perfect 4-0 win-loss ratio and 12 points. On Saturday, they put together a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) sweep with a match-high 22 points from American outside hitter Giovanna Day, including four kill blocks. The following day the final result was 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-23). Day was once again the best scorer of the match, this time with 16 points. Gunma stand in 11th place on 1-3 and 3.
Victorina Himeji also took the full six points from their visit to Toray Arrows Shiga to occupy second place on 4-0 and 11. The first match went 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 33-31, 25-19) the way of Himeji, spearheaded by Italian opposite Camilla Mingardi with a smashing 34 points. The visitors got an even more convincing result in the second game and struck a hard-fought 3-0 (29-27, 25-20, 26-24) straight-setter. This time, middle blocker Airi Miyabe was their best scorer with a match-high 17 points. On 0-4 and 0, Toray are second from the bottom.
Kurobe Aqua Fairies claimed two five-set wins on the road at Saitama Ageo Medics and take third place on 4-0 and 10, while their opponents stand eighth on 2-2 and 7. Saturday’s 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-28, 15-13) victory was powered by outside hitter Rimi Kaneda with 27 points. On Sunday, sub-in opposite Aoi Hata contributed a team-high 16 points to Kurobe’s 3-2 (25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 21-25, 15-10) success. Ageo’s American-Polish opposite Izabella Rapacz was the best scorer of that match with 27 points.
The fourth place in the current standings is occupied by Denso Airybees Koriyama on 3-1 and 9. With the same record, Astemo Rivale Ibaraki are fifth. Denso visited Astemo over the weekend and they traded three-point victories. Denso celebrated a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-17) sweep with a match-high 17 points from Brazilian opposite Sabrina Machado. Astemo got back at their visitors with a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-16) win, with Machado sharing the match top scorer honors with the winners’ American outside Mackenzie May on 22 points each.
PFU BlueCats Ishikawa Kahoku picked up two straight-set wins at home against Okayama Seagulls and moved up to sixth place on 2-2 and 7, leaving the opponents bottom of the table, in 14th place on 0-4 and 0. PFU’s opposite Melissa Valdes and her Okayama counterpart Rinka Komatsubara topped the charts in Saturday’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-14) shutout with 13 points apiece. Valdes led the way in Sunday’s 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-20) sweep with 20 points to her name.
Defending champions Osaka Marvelous scored their first two wins of the new season and climbed to seventh place on 2-2 and 7. They took the full six points against their visitors Aranmare Yamagata and left them in 12th place on 0-4 and 0. Belgian opposite Lise Van Hecke put away a match-high 21 points, including three aces and three blocks, towards Saturday’s 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21) victory. In Sunday’s 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-16) sweep, the champions were led by Filipino opposite Alyssa Jae Solomon and outside Ameze Miyabe with 13 points apiece, while Aranmare’s Thai outside Ajcharaporn Kongyot emerged as the best scorer with 14 points.
Queenseis Kariya, on 2-2 and 6, and Saga Hisamitsu Springs, on 1-3 and 3, line up in ninth and 10th place after trading four-set-victories this weekend. In the first match, Kariya celebrated a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-20) away win, led by Russian outside Sofya Kuznetsova with 23 points. In the second, the home team replied with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 22-25, 25-20) win, with a match-high 20 points from American opposite Stephanie Samedy.
The third leg next weekend, from October 24 to 26, will offer six double headers on the women’s SV.League program.
