In a men’s volleyball Daido Life SV.League leg, in which all five double headers were played between a team from the top half of the current standings and a team from the bottom half, Tokyo Great Bears were the only ones who managed to break the ranking and scored two wins at higher-placed Hiroshima Thunders.

Despite these results the two teams stayed within their halves of the table. However, Tokyo Great Bears climbed a spot to sixth place on a 5-5 win-loss ratio and 13 points, while Hiroshima Thunders dropped a spot to fifth place on 5-5 and 15. On Saturday, the squad from the capital put together a 3-2 (23-25, 29-27, 25-23, 16-25, 15-10) victory as their Polish star opposite Bartosz Kurek erupted with a leg-high 28 points, including two kill blocks and an ace. On Sunday, Tokyo gained the full three points with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19) win and Kurek once again led the way, with 20 points, including three blocks and an ace.
Table leaders Osaka Bluteon and Suntory Sunbirds Osaka both picked up the full six points from their travels this weekend, but unlike the defending champions, Bluteon lost one set, which narrowed the distance between the two at the top to just one set lost more for Suntory Sunbirds. They are on 9-1 and 26 each, but Bluteon have a set ratio of 28-8, against 28-9 for Suntory.
Star opposite and captain Yuji Nishida led Osaka Bluteon to Saturday’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 27-25) shutout of Nippon Steel Sakai Blazers with a match-high 19 points, including one ace and one block. Sunday’s four-setter produced a 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18) win Bluteon’s way. Cuban outside Miguel Lopez led the winners with 16 points, including three aces and a block. The home team’s Italian outside Tommaso Rinaldi also finished with 16 points, all in swings. Sakai are now down to 2-8 and 6 in ninth place.
Suntory Sunbirds Osaka swept both of their games at Voreas Hokkaido, leaving the opponents at the bottom of the table, in 10th place on 2-8 and 6 and a less favorable set ratio than that of Sakai. Suntory hammered out a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) victory in the first match, led by star outside hitter and captain Ran Takahashi with 12 points, including two blocks. Voreas’s Taiwanese opposite Chang Yu-Sheng was the best scorer of the match with 14 points, including two aces. The second match went 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-20), with Russian opposite Dmitriy Muserskiy on top of the chart with 16 points, including two aces.
In front of over three thousand fans on each of the two days, third-placed Wolfdogs Nagoya also picked up six points on the road at Toray Arrows Shizuoka to improve to 7-3 and 21 and leave the opponents third from the bottom, in eighth place on 2-8 and 7. On Saturday, outside Taito Mizumachi fired four aces and raised three kill blocks towards a match-high 23-point contribution to a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19) victory. In Sunday’s 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23) sweep, opposite Kentro Miyaura (three aces) and Tunisian outside Aymen Bouguerra (one ace, one kill block) shared the top scorer honors with 13 points apiece towards their team’s win.
JTEKT Stings Aichi capitalized on Hiroshima’s setback to climb to fourth place on 6-4 and 18 after two three-pointers at Nagano Tridents. The visitors achieved a 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18) victory on Saturday, powered by French opposite Stephen Boyer with a match-high 26 points, including four blocks. On Sunday, American outside Torey DeFalco led Aichi to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) sweep with a team-high 18 points, including an ace and a block. Nagano’s Canadian opposite Matthew Neaves was the best scorer of this match with 24 points, including two blocks and an ace. Nagano descended to seventh place on 3-7 and 12.
The sixth leg of action will offer four double headers, one on Thursday and Friday, November 27 and 28, and another three on Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30.
