The victory kept the eight-time Superliga champions at the top of the standings with 32 points (11 wins, one loss), three ahead of in-state rivals Itambé Minas, who will be their next opponents, on Wednesday.
The MVP of Sada Cruzeiro’s victory at last year’s Club World Championship, veteran opposite Wallace de Souza led the team against Praia, producing a match-high 17 points, with 12 kills, three aces and two blocks.
Fellow Rio 2016 Olympic champion Douglas Souza took home the match’s MVP award. The 29-year-old outside hitter, who had lost his spot in the team during the Club World Championship, returned to the starting lineup in great form, tallying 11 points, with nine kills, one block and one ace.
“Our team is just like that, we’re never done winning,” Douglas remarked. “Everyone in our squad is ready to play and we showed that one more time tonight. We started the year on the right foot, with a nice win at home and we want to keep the pace. We have a critical match against Minas next week and we’ll prepare for it.”
