Recently-crowned world champions Sada Cruzeiro will enter the break for the Holidays at the top of the standings in the Brazilian Men’s Superliga.

Seven days after they won the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Uberlândia (MG), they reunited with their fans and secured their tenth victory in 11 Superliga matches to get to 29 points in the standings, creating a three-point separation to in-state rivals Itambé Minas.

Playing at the Riacho Arena, in Contagem (MG), Sada Cruzeiro had no trouble beating Saneago Goiás Vôlei 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21), bringing even more joy to a day of celebration for their fans, who saw the team perform a celebration lap on the court and could take photos with the Club World Championship trophy, which was exposed at the entrance of the arena.

With star opposite Wallace de Souza, the MVP of the Club World Championship, rested, backup Welinton Oppenkoski led the way for the world champions, producing a match-high 20 points, with 17 kills and three blocks. Middle blocker Otávio Pinto scored 13, with six kills, four aces and three blocks, and took home the match MVP award.

“To end the year with this incredible celebration with our fans and to be able to present them the Club World Championship trophy was amazing,” Otávio reflected. “It was difficult to regain our focus this week and I feel that in both matches we played, we had to overcome a slow start to get the win. This club is never done winning and I hope that we can continue the same way in 2025. We’ll use these next few weeks to rest and will come back stronger to go for more.”

Sada Cruzeiro will play their next match on January 9, when they face Praia Clube. On the same day, Goiás play Vôlei Renata Campinas.
