SESC RJ Flamengo are back in the race for the top spot in the 2025-2026 Brazilian Women's Superliga standings.

After dropping back-to-back matches and seeing rivals Gerdau Minas create a four-point separation from them, the Rio de Janeiro side returned to winning ways in the ninth leg of the second round of the regular season and brought the difference down to a single point on Friday.

After losing consecutive Superliga matches to Sancor Maringá Vôlei and Minas and being downed by Osasco São Cristovão Saúde in the Brazilian Cup semifinals, Flamengo counted on the support of their home fans to beat fifth-placed SESI Vôlei Bauru 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) at the iconic Maracanãzinho stadium on Friday.

Benefited by a 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 17-25, 25-22) home loss of Minas to defending champions and fourth-placed Osasco on Thursday, Flamengo got to 49 points, trailing their rivals by only one - they have the two remaining regular-season legs to pass them and head into the playoffs as the top-seeded team.

Olympic medalist opposite Tainara Lemos had a standout performance for Flamengo, leading the team with 20 points (19 kills, one block) and earning the match's MVP award. American outside hitter Simone Lee added another 18, with 15 kills, two blocks and one ace.

"This is a very important win for us," Tainara reflected. "We had probably our worst moment of the season in the last few weeks, but we took it as a learning experience. Those results showed where we had to improve, and today we managed to show how much progress we've made. Now we just want to keep improving. The most important moment of the season is coming, and we need to keep finding ways to win because that's all that matters now."

SESI, which were undefeated in their last six matches, had Olympic medalist middle blocker Diana Duarte as their leading scorer with 15 points (11 kills, four blocks).

Also on Friday, third-placed Dentil Praia Clube defeated sixth-placed Fluminense 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 15-25, 25-16) and seventh-placed Maringá swept (25-23, 25-23, 25-21) 12th-placed and already relegated Renasce Sorocaba.

Tijuca are relegated

The ninth leg also confirmed Tijuca Tênis Clube's relegation to the Brazilian Superliga B in 2026-2027. Ranked 11th, the team from Rio de Janeiro lost to ninth-placed Paulistano Barueri 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-20) on Thursday and continued with 12 points, while tenth-placed Brasília Vôlei earned two points with a 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10) road win over eighth-placed Batavo Mackenzie and got to 18 - they have six wins to Tijuca's three and are guaranteed to end the regular season ahead of them.
