The Italian men’s volleyball SuperLega Credem Banca competition week will get underway on Wednesday, November 19, with the last fixture of the sixth leg, and will continue on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, with the six games of the seventh leg, highlighted by a titanic clash between Itas Trentino Trento and Sir Susa Scai Perugia.

The first SuperLega match of the week features Allianz Milan and Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina, set to take to the court at the Allianz Cloud at 20:30 local (19:30 UTC) on Wednesday. The home team is running eighth in the current standings on 7 points and a 3-2 win-loss record, while the visitors from Grottazzolina are still the only winless team in the league and trail in 12th place on 1 and 0-5.

The two teams will appear in action again over the weekend. Allianz Milan will visit Cisterna Volley in the weekend’s opener on Saturday at 18:00 (17:00), while Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina will host Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza at the Savelli hall in one of Sunday’s closing matches, serving off at 19:00 (18:00). Cisterna are in ninth place on 6 and 3-3, while Gas Sales stand sixth on 9 and 3-3.

Undoubtedly, the upcoming mighty collision between Italian champions Itas Trentino Trento and European champions Sir Susa Scai Perugia headlines the SuperLega program for this week. Sir, who are also preparing for their participation in next month’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil, suffered their first loss of the season last Sunday in a home five-setter against Rana Verona. Having already played seven matches, the Block Devils are still number one in the table on 17 and 6-1. Trentino have already stumbled a couple of times in the defense of their title this season, but got back to the winning track with two victories in a row and are now in fourth place on 12 and 4-2. Last season, Sir and Trentino met three times. The club from Perugia triumphed with a five-set victory in the Italian super cup final and won the SuperLega match in Trento in four sets, while Trentino won their last meeting, in Perugia, after a five-set battle and improved their standing in the all-time head-to-head series to 32-25. The upcoming game will get underway at 18:00 (17:00) on Sunday, at the BTS Arena in Trento, already sold out a week before the event.

“Sunday's match will be a good test, because so far this season we've struggled against teams that performed well between serving and blocking, and Sir Susa Scai possess these characteristics. Therefore, it will certainly be a very difficult match. We are preparing for it with attention and care, as we do against any team. Obviously, there will be moments when we'll struggle to express our game, which is why it will be crucial to always have the right attitude.” Gabriele Laurenzano, libero of Itas Trentino Trento
“Now all we have to do is keep our heads down, work hard, approach this week in the right way to face Trento and bring home a win. In matches like this, the 'small’ things always decide the outcome.” Donovan Dzavoronok, outside hitter of Sir Susa Scai Perugia

Also on Sunday, Rana Verona will try to extend their excellent performance so far this season as they welcome Vero Volley Monza to the Agsm AIM hall at 19:00 (18:00). The two teams are situated symmetrically in the table. Verona, on 14 and 5-1, are second from the top, while Vero Volley, on 4 and 1-5, are second from the bottom, in 11th place.

In another “symmetric” encounter, third-placed Cucine Lube Civitanova, standing on 13 and 4-2, will travel to third-from-the-bottom Sonepar Padova Padua, occupying 10th place on 6 and 2-4. The game at the Kioene Arena will serve off at 17:00 (16:00).

Sunday’s competition day will open an hour earlier, at 16:00 (15:00), with a match between MA Acqua San Bernardo Cuneo and Valsa Group Modena. With seven games already played, the SuperLega rookies are running seventh on 8 and 2-5. Their visitors from Modena are in fifth place on 11 and 3-3.
