Sir Susa Vim Perugia v Vero Volley Monza

Reigning club world champions and Italian Super Cup laureates Sir Susa Scai Perugia gradually made their way to the top of the regular season table and, after a strong 14-game winning streak finish, they conquered the first place a solid 10 points clear, on 58 points and a 20-2 win-loss record. On Saturday, at 21:00 local time (20:00 UTC), at the Barton Energy hall, in a remake of the 2024 SuperLega final, Sir will play host to Vero Volley Monza, who took eighth place on 25 and 8-14. The team from Perugia won each of the two encounters with Vero Volley during the regular season in four sets. In fact, the last time the club from Monza managed to win a match against the Block Devils was back in April 2024, in a five-set battle during the championship series. Overall, the two clubs have met a total of 43 times, with Sir winning 35 of the encounters.

“It's a great time coming! All the teams that made the playoffs have earned it! They definitely want to play, to show their worth, and we'll have to be ready. I think the work we've done so far is good, so we don't need to do much more or do anything incredible. I don't know what the game will be like, but I'm sure we'll approach it as we know how. Vero Volley are a team that, when they're in good shape, can cause problems. But we have to focus on our job, and if we can find the key to defeating them, the court will obviously tell!” Sebastian Sole, middle blocker of Sir Susa Vim Perugia
“We are proud and happy to be able to play in the playoffs, a goal the team set for itself and one for which the players were extremely motivated. We faced some difficulties during the season, but we fought back and had a strong finish that allowed us to consolidate our eighth place in the standings. Now the goal is to give our all in every game we play. We know we'll be facing a team that's in incredible shape despite their recent absences, a team full of champions, led by an experienced and successful coach. It's not easy to overwhelm Perugia right now because they have a high intensity of play and a solid reception. We'll have to be very good at making the most of our opponents' mistakes." Massimo Eccheli, head coach of Vero Volley Monza
Itas Trentino Trento v Cucine Lube Civitanova

Defending champions Itas Trentino Trento entered the season as one of the favorites, but following some personnel problems, finished “only” third on 47 and 16-6. As the first leg of the quarterfinals continues on Sunday, they will welcome Cucine Lube Civitanova to the BTS Arena at 17:00 (16:00), in a remake of last year’s SuperLega final, which Trentino took by three wins to one. Lube made s strong start to the season, but followed up with some shaky results, still good enough for a top-six finish of the regular season. They took sixth place on 40 and 13-9. Before the playoffs, they signed with Tunisian striker Hamza Hfaiedh, who will help the team for the matches ahead. During the regular season, Lube and Trentino traded four-set home victories, and the all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs now stands at 58-51 Lube’s way.

“Reaching a milestone like two hundred games for the same club is a great achievement, and even more so when you do it with a prestigious and important club like Trentino Volley. I'm proud and honored to reach this number on such an important day as Sunday, in front of our home crowd. We begin our playoff run facing the very opponent we defeated in the final last season, and that alone speaks volumes about how tough and close this quarterfinal can be. We'll have a home-court advantage in three of the five games in the series, and we'll have to try to exploit it immediately. It will be a very difficult match, as is only natural in the playoffs of the best championship in the world.” Daniele Lavia, outside hitter of Itas Trentino Trento
“Compared to a couple of months ago, our team has made significant progress in terms of attitude on the court. Now we just need to complete the final step in preparation for all the games that can be decided by a ball. We must continue our growth and analyze what went wrong to be ready against Trento. The Italian champions await us, and even without the unavailable Alessandro Michieletto, they have everything they need to play excellent volleyball. Maintaining a cool head in the most tense moments is what can carry us forward and what is missing now. I'm confident! So far, the path hasn't been straightforward, but Lube can still improve.” Giampaolo Medei, head coach of Cucine Lube Civitanova
Rana Verona v Allianz Milan

Rana Verona have been the hit of the season so far. They won the Italy Cup for the first time and have also been racing for the top spot in the SuperLega, eventually finishing the regular season as runners-up on 48 and 17-5. In the quarterfinals, they will take on Allianz Milan, with the first match set to serve off on Sunday at 18:00 (17:00) at the Agsm AIM hall in Verona. Allianz have been running steadily in seventh place and that’s where they finished the regular season on 32 and 11-11. The squad from Milan will be without outside hitter Francesco Recine, who sustained an injury during an international game earlier this week. Verona swept all three of their matches against Allianz this season in straight sets – two in the SuperLega and one in a Coppa Italia quarterfinal. The overall head-to-head record stands at 21-13 in favor of Verona.

“We will approach these playoffs, treating each match as if it were a final. We'll arrive at Sunday in good shape. We're seeing encouraging signs compared to the critical issues we've had recently. Therefore, I'm confident that we'll be ready to face a very dangerous Milan team on Sunday. Fortunately, the boys are playing good volleyball, even if they're not in top form.” Fabio Soli, head coach of Rana Verona
“Sunday brings another tough match against Verona. We need to recover from our CEV Challenge Cup as quickly as possible, unfortunately without Checco (Francesco Recine), because the most important part of the season begins on Sunday. We'll have to be at 100% because Verona are on the other side, and we know it won't be easy.” Ferre Reggers, opposite of Allianz Milan
Valsa Group Modena v Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza

At least on paper, the quarterfinal between Valsa Group Modena and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza should offer the toughest battle as it features two neighbors in the table, the teams placed fourth and fifth at the end of the regular season. Modena are on 47 and 16-6, with a lower set ratio than third-placed Trentino. Gas Sales are on 44 and 13-9. The first game between them, at 20:30 (19:30) at the Panini hall in Modena, will close the first leg of the quarterfinal playoffs on Sunday evening. Valsa Group made a strong finish to the regular season, stringing together a five-game winning streak, which started in January with a five-set home victory over the team from Piacenza. It was their second of the SuperLega season, after a 3-1 road win in October. They also met in an Italy Cup quarterfinal in late December, which Gas Sales won in four sets at home. The upcoming match is set to tilt the 12-12 all-time head-to-head balance between the two clubs one way or the other.

“We can't wait to get on the court, an anticipation that must be transformed into competitive spirit and determination to best tackle these playoffs. The team is ready both technically and tactically. It's clear we're facing a tough opponent in great form, but we're ready too. I expect a packed house playing alongside with us.” Alberto Giuliani, head coach of Valsa Group Modena
“We're two very young teams, created in the same way. I don't know if we have the same mentality, but we've both found the right balance to reach the playoffs. Having them face us right away in the quarterfinals is great and it gives me energy to play game one at the Panini hall. But our arena is also packed this year, and it shows.” Alessandro Bovolenta, opposite of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza
