Sir Susa Vim Perugia v Rana Verona

Reigning national champions and defending Coppa Italia trophy holders Sir Susa Vim Perugia won the national cup four times, in 2018, in 2019, in 2022 and in 2024. This season, they have already defended their Supercoppa Italiana trophy and currently lead the SuperLega standings on 42 points and a 15-2 win-loss record. In their Coppa Italia quarterfinal on December 30, they delivered a 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-22) home win over Valsa Group Modena to advance to the Final Four for the 11th time in the club’s history.

“In the Coppa Italia match against Verona we will have to suffer a lot, for sure. They are fired up; it's the first time they've reached the Final Four. It will be a match with ups and downs so we'll have to be there and that's the important thing; we'll have to be there especially technically.” Simone Giannelli, setter and captain of Sir Susa Vim Perugia

Their semifinal opponents, Rana Verona, have never won the Coppa Italia. In fact, advancing to this year’s Final Four is the current club’s best result in the competition so far. Their predecessors Marmi Lanza Verona, however, reached the cup semifinals in the 2004-2005 season. In the quarterfinals on December 29, Rana Verona squeezed out a 3-2 (25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10) home win over Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza. The team is running fifth in the SuperLega table on 30 and 10-7.

“This is a special week that brings us to the Final Four. We've never achieved such an important result since I arrived in Verona. I've always dreamed of playing these games and we'll have to give our all. It won't be easy as Perugia is stronger, but sometimes the one who believes more wins. I'm looking at this match with positivity and enthusiasm. Perugia will be under a bit of pressure because they've lost two games in a row, but I expect them to react well given the players they have.” Rok Mozic, outside hitter and captain of Rana Verona

Sir and Verona have previously met 42 times, with the club from Perugia leading the head-to-head by a convincing 35-7 in wins. Verona’s last victory over Sir dates back to about a year ago, when they won on the road in five sets. Five wins in a row for the Block Devils followed. This season in the SuperLega, Sir shut out Verona in the home match, but then, last month in Verona, the resolution came in the tie-breaker.

Itas Trentino Trento v Cucine Lube Civitanova

Itas Trentino Trento have won the Coppa Italia three times in history, but not since 2013. They are heading towards their 18th participation in the national cup Final Four. The reigning European club champions arrive in Bologna as the second-placed team in the current SuperLega standings. On a win-loss record of 14-2, they are two points behind Sir, but have a game in hand. To reach the Coppa Italia semifinals, Trentino achieved a 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15) quarterfinal victory at home against Cisterna Volley in December.

“I will participate in the Coppa Italia Final Four for the first time and I will immediately face Cucine Lube who launched me to these levels. I will find old teammates like Bottolo, Chinenyeze and Balaso on the other side of the net and it will be a great pleasure. It will be a very high-level match and the entire two days of competition will offer an extraordinary show. To the fans of Trentino Volley we promise maximum commitment. We will give everything and we will never give up to advance to the final.” Gabriel Garcia, opposite of Itas Trentino Trento

Ahead of their 18th participation in the Coppa Italia semifinals, Cucine Lube Civitanova have collected seven trophies in the history of the competition, the most recent one in 2021. However, they have not been able to advance to the Final Four since then. This time, they were able to win their quarterfinal in December’s 3-2 (25-17, 20-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11) battle with Allianz Milan. In the SuperLega, Lube currently stand third on 36 and 11-5.

“This cup has been missing from our trophy showcase for a while, as in the last three seasons we have failed to reach the Final Four. We are aware of our means thanks to what we are showing on the court. We are confident after a really important victory over leaders Perugia. We will face Trento, one of the favourites to win the trophy, certain that we can cause some problems for them. We know the value of Itas. The semifinal of the Club World Championship went badly, but it helped us grow. We will give 100% on the court to reverse the predictions. One-off challenges must be faced with the right mindset because anything can happen.” Fabio Balaso, libero and captain of Cucine Lube Civitanova

Trentino and Lube are approaching their head-to-head clash, riding winning streaks of seven and five consecutive matches across all competitions, respectively. The two clubs will meet for the 102nd time in history, with Lube leading the series by 55-46 in wins. They have played each other twice this season, both times in December. The squad from Civitanova won their SuperLiga encounter in four sets at home, but then Trentino shut out their opponents in the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship semifinals in Brazil.
