Steam in must-win challenge against SKRA on Wednesday

The delayed last match of the 20^th leg in the men’s volleyball PlusLiga in Poland will be played on Wednesday, March 11, and will put Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa with their backs against the wall as they take on PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow. Should Steam lose that game, they will be certain of their relegation from the PlusLiga for the next season.

Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa will entertain PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow at the Czestochowa hall on Wednesday at 17:30 local time (16:30 UTC). The home team is at the very bottom of the current standings, in 14^th place on 16 points and a 4-19 win-loss record, which means it needs three victories in the remaining three matches for a chance of surviving in the league by surpassing 13^th-placed InPost ChKS Chelm, who stand on 23 and 7-17.

Meanwhile, SKRA are racing for one of the remaining vacancies in the quarterfinals. They are currently within the playoff zone, in seventh place on 35 and 12-10, but far from being safe for their place there by the end of the regular season, as they are only two points above the current cut-off.

SKRA won November’s home game against Steam in four sets and lead the all-time head-to-head record in official matches by 4-2 in victories.

They'll be even more dangerous because they have nothing to lose and will be taking risks with every shot. It will be a much tougher match than anyone thinks.
