PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow booked the sixth berth in the men’s volleyball PlusLiga playoffs in Poland, while JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj stopped just short of reserving the seventh as four delayed matches from previous legs were played from Tuesday to Thursday of this week. Meanwhile, Energa Trefl Gdansk dropped out of the playoff zone in the current standings for the time being, with one leg to go to the end of the regular season. ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle took their place above the cut-off line.

On Wednesday evening in Elblag, PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow hammered out a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-21) sweep of their road game at Barkom Kazhany Lviv, climbed to sixth place on 41 points and a 14-11 win-loss record, surpassing Jastrzebski Wegiel, and can no longer fall below the eighth place in the final regular season standings. French outside hitter Antoine Pothron was the best scorer of the match, contributing 16 points to SKRA’s success, and received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) recognition.

JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj needed to win just one point upon their visit to Asseco Resovia Rzeszow on Thursday evening to follow suit and qualify for the quarterfinals, but failed to do so as the home team mastered a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) shutout. Last year’s regular season winners fell to seventh place on 39 and 14-11, still well within reach of a playoff berth. Playoffs-bound Resovia, on the other hand, rose to fourth place on 48 and 17-8, overtaking Indykpol AZS Olsztyn. Another French outside, Yacine Louati, led Resovia to victory with a team-high 14 points to earn the MVP award, while his Jastrzebski Wegiel counterpart Michal Gierzot topped the match chart with 16 points.
