Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will get the action underway on Wednesday at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC). For the hosts from Czestochowa that game in hand is a match they desperately need to win in order to improve their record at the very bottom of the current standings and not fall too far behind their rivals in the race for survival. Steam are the current occupants of the relegation zone, stuck in 14th place on 12 points and a 3-14 win-loss record, three points behind 13th-placed Barkom Kazhany Lviv. But even if Steam win the three points against Aluron, however, they will not be able to surpass the Ukrainian team, which has five wins on their record. It will be a difficult task anyway, as the squad from Zawiercie is in good shape, standing second, two points from the top, on 36 and 12-5, also with a game in hand. Should last year’s silver medalists win in Czestochowa, they will surge to first place in the table. When the two teams met in the first half of the regular season, Aluron mastered a straight-set home win.
The 20th leg will open on Thursday at 17:30 (16:30) with InPost ChKS Chelm hosting JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj at the MOSiR. The PlusLiga rookies are in 11th place on 19 and 6-12, while the 2024-2025 regular season winners stand seventh on 28 and 10-8, fighting to keep their place within the playoff zone. Chelm managed to take a set from their mighty opponents when they visited them in Jastrzebie-Zdroj in November.
Slepsk Malow Suwalki will try to recover from their straight-set home defeat at the hands of Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski on Monday, as they open the competition day on Friday at 17:30 (16:30) with another home game. But the challenge will come from table leaders PGE Projekt Warsaw. Slepsk Malow are running in 10th place on 21 and 6-12, while Projekt are first on 38 and 13-5. November’s match between the two teams in Warsaw was pushed to five sets before last season’s bronze medalists could celebrate a tie-breaker victory.
In Friday’s late match, at 20:00 (19:00), defending champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will welcome Barkom Kazhany Lviv to the Globus. BOGDANKA are now in third place on 36 and 12-6, while Barkom Kazhany are just above the relegation zone, in 13th place on 15 and 5-13. The previous match between them resulted in a 3-1 away win for the team from Lublin.
Saturday’s opening match, between ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Energa Trefl Gdansk at 12:30 (11:30) at the Azoty hall, is relevant to the race for the playoff spots. Hosts ZAKSA are running just below the cut-off, in ninth place on 26 and 8-10, while Trefl are just three points above them in sixth place on 29 and 11-7. A five-set duel unfolded when they met in Gdansk in November, with hosts Trefl claiming the victory.
Saturday evening will offer the highest-profile clash of the week, with Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie entertaining Asseco Resovia Rzeszow at 20:30 (19:30). Resovia occupy fourth place on 34 and 12-6. It will be the fourth meeting between these two sides this season. Aluron swept November’s PlusLiga road match in Rzeszow in straight sets. Then, they beat Resovia by 3-1 at home in a CEV Champions League encounter in December. They also met in a Poland Cup quarterfinal in Zawiercie in late December and this time the visitors from Rzeszow surprised the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship bronze medalists with a shutout.
The competition week will end with Sunday’s game between Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, serving off at 18:00 (17:00). Hosts Cuprum Stilon are third from the bottom, in 12th place on 18 and 5-13. Indykpol are in fifth place on 33 and 12-5, with a game in hand. They took November’s home game against their opponents from Gorzow Wielkopolski in straight sets.
The last match of the 20th leg, between Steam and PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow, will be played on March 11.
