Sunday’s titanic clash between PGE Projekt Warsaw and BOGDANKA LUK Lublin is certainly the highlight of the upcoming leg’s program in the men’s volleyball PlusLiga in Poland, but the excitement will already take over on Friday evening, when the action-packed weekend will serve off with the first match of the 25th leg, and last through Monday evening, when the last game on its schedule unfolds.

Last season’s bronze medalists PGE Projekt Warsaw will welcome reigning PlusLiga champions and Poland Cup and Poland Super Cup laureates BOGDANKA LUK Lublin to the Torwar on Sunday, March 8, at 17:30 local time (16:30 UTC). Projekt are running second in the current standings on 48 points and a 17-6 win-loss record, while BOGDANKA are just below them, in third place on 44 and 15-7, with a game in hand, and arrive in the capital on a five-match winning streak between the PlusLiga and the CEV Champions League. The previous match between the two teams, in December in Lublin, went 3-0 the way of hosts BOGDANKA. Projekt, however, lead the all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs in official matches by 7-5 in victories, plus one golden set won.

For Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa, every game is starting to look more and more like a do-or-die match, and Friday’s visit to ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle is no exception. While there is still hope for survival in the league for next season, they will have to minimize the damages in the upcoming fixtures. ZAKSA will host Steam at the Azoty hall for the leg opener on Friday evening at 20:00 (19:00). The team from Czestochowa trails bottom, in 14th place on 16 and 4-18, currently seven points away from the salvation line, with four games to play. ZAKSA, on the other hand, are still hoping to catch the last train to the quarterfinals, as they are three points below the cut-off for the playoffs, in ninth place, on 30 and 9-13. In December, Steam surprised ZAKSA with a four-set home win.

Saturday’s competition day will open with a game between Slepsk Malow Suwalki and PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow at 14:45 (13:45). Standing in 10th place on 25 and 7-16, hosts Slepsk Malow can play without pressure as their chances of making the playoffs or of facing relegation are practically minimal. SKRA, however, are on the edge of the playoff zone, in eighth place on 33 and 11-10, with two games in hand, and need the points to consolidate their position in the race for the quarterfinal spots. In December, SKRA beat Slepsk Malow in four sets at home in Belchatow.

FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship bronze medalists and current PlusLiga table leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will entertain Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski on Saturday at 17:30 (16:30). Riding on a nine-game winning streak in the league, Aluron convincingly occupy the first place in the standings on 53 and 18-5, five points clear of Projekt, with three games to go. Similar to Slepsk Malow, Cuprum Stilon are far enough from both the playoff zone and the relegation spot, in 11th place on 24 and 7-15. They failed to take a set, when they hosted Aluron in November.

Asseco Resovia Rzeszow and Barkom Kazhany Lviv will close the day on Saturday. The Ukrainian team will visit their opponents at the Podpromie hall at 20:00 (19:00). The home team is in fifth place on 40 and 14-8, with a game in hand, while Barkom Kazhany stand third from the bottom, in 12th place on 23 and 8-14. Resovia won December’s away game in straight sets.

Last year’s regular season winners JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj will be fighting to stay on track for a quarterfinal spot as they visit another playoff candidate, Energa Trefl Gdansk, at the Ergo Arena on Sunday at 14:45 (13:45). The two teams are neighbors in the table on a 12-10 record each. Trefl stand sixth on 34 points, while Jastrzebski Wegiel are seventh on 33. December’s match between them in Jastrzebie-Zdroj went 3-1 the way of the home team.

Indykpol AZS Olsztyn and InPost ChKS Chelm will close the 25th leg on Monday. The Urania hall in Olsztyn will welcome the game at 17:30 (16:30). Indykpol are aiming at a good starting position in the playoff bracket. Currently, they are in fourth place on 42 and 15-8. PlusLiga rookies Chelm are aiming to stay far enough from Steam and avoid relegation, as they are currently second from the bottom, in 13th place on 23 and 7-16. The two teams put up a five-set battle in Chelm in December, with the visitors from Olsztyn snatching the win in the tie-breaker.
