Energia Trefl Gdansk will welcome the only foreign team in the PlusLiga, Barkom Kazhany Lviv, to the Ergo Arena on Monday at 17:30 local time (15:30 UTC). Led by star middle blocker Piotr Nowakowski, this season Trefl are certainly aiming much higher than the 11th place they took in last season’s final standings. This surely applies for Barkom as well. They barely avoided relegation at the end of the 2024-2025 season, but with several Ukrainian and foreign internationals on the squad, conducted by prominent German playmaker Lukas Kampa, they will try to play a more major role in the new championship.
PlusLiga action will continue on Tuesday with a game between Slepsk Malow Suwalki and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow at the Suwalki Arena, also serving off at 17:30 (15:30). Slepsk Malow finished in 10th place last season. Now they have been reinforced with Bulgarian striker Asparuh Asparuhov and American middle David Smith and are expected to show the team’s new face as they take on their visitors from Rzeszow. Asseco Resovia made the playoffs in 2024-2025 and finished sixth. They could easily shoot much higher this year, as their squad is loaded with international talent, like Czechia’s Lukas Vasina, France’s Yacine Louati, Slovenia’s Klemen Cebulj, USA’s Erik Shoji, Poland’s Pawel Zatorski and Artur Szalpuk, among others.
Later on Tuesday, at 20:30 (18:30), 2025 bronze medalists PGE Projekt Warsaw will take the role of hosts and heavy favorites against PlusLiga newcomers InPost ChKS Chelm. The home team at the COS Torwar will be able to rely on a constellation of top-caliber players like Jakub Kochanowski, Karol Klos, Bartosz Bednorz and France’s Kevin Tillie, among others, while the squad from Chelm is built around Iranian international Amirhossein Esfandiar.
Wednesday’s PlusLiga competition day will also open at 17:30 (15:30), with Indykpol AZS Olsztyn entertaining JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj at the Hala Urania. Last season, Indykpol finished ninth, just short of making the playoffs, while Jastrzebski Wegiel topped the regular season standings, but then failed to make the podium, finishing fourth. Relying on several international players like Canada’s Arthur Szwarc, Czechia’s Jan Hadrava and Germany’s Johannes Tille and Moritz Karlitzek, the team from Olsztyn will try to stand up to the mighty visitors from Jastrzebie-Zdroj, headlined by the likes of setter Benjamin Toniutti of France and opposite Lukasz Kaczmarek.
A game between Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa and defending champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will round off the first week of PlusLiga action. The match at the Hala Sportowa Czestochowa serves off at 20:30 (18:30) on Wednesday. In 2024-2025, both teams had their best seasons in history, with the club from Czestochowa making the playoffs for the first time and finishing eighth, and the one from Lublin triumphant with their first ever national title. Steam Hemarpol have retained their leaders – Czech opposite Patrik Indra and Iranian outside Milad Ebadipour – who will now be fed by Argentina’s magical playmaker Luciano De Cecco in attack. BOGDANKA will continue to be spearheaded by super star outside Wilfredo Leon, opposite Kewin Sasak and Bulgarian middle Aleks Grozdanov, with Brazilian libero Thales Hoss, providing stability in the back.
The remaining four teams in the PlusLiga - ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski and PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow – will play their first-leg matches a week from Wednesday, on October 29, after the second-leg games take place from October 25 to 28.
