The 19th leg of the Polish PlusLiga regular season will get underway on Friday evening with the first match for 2025 - Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa against PSG Stal Nysa. The big highlight among the eight matches of the PlusLiga “weekend”, however, is coming up on Monday, when the top two teams of the current standings – PGE Projekt Warsaw and Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj – go head to head at the COS Torwar in the Polish capital.

Second-placed PGE Projekt Warsaw, standing on 44 points and a 16-2 win-loss record, will host table leaders Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj, who are three points clear, on 47 and 15-3, on Monday, January 6, at 17:30 local time (16:30 UTC). If Jakub Kochanowski, Kevin Tillie, Artur Szalpuk and the rest of their Projekt teammates manage to score a three-point win over the strong line-up of their visitors, featuring the likes of Lukasz Kaczmarek, Benjamin Toniutti and Tomasz Fornal, among many others, this will prompt a place switch between the two powerful teams and propel the squad from Warsaw as the new leader.

The two clubs have previously met 54 times in official matches, with Jastrzebski Wegiel leading the head-to-head record by 34 to 20. Last season, they exchanged three-point home victories. When they met in Jastrzebie-Zdroj in early October this season, the defending champions celebrated a 3-1 win over Projekt.

In Friday’s leg opener, Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa will welcome PSG Stal Nysa at 20:30 (19:30). Placed sixth in the table on 32 and 11-7, the home team is the clear favourite in this encounter with Stal, who are fighting for survival as they are just above the relegation zone, in 13th place on 15 and 4-14.

Saturday’s PlusLiga programme will get underway with bottom-placed GKS Katowice’s home match against Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie at 12:30 (11:30). GKS trail in 16th place on 6 and 2-16 and their chances of salvation are getting slimmer and slimmer as the season progresses. Meanwhile, Aluron are among the medal contenders, currently positioned in third place on 42 and 14-4.

Saturday’s second game will offer an interesting clash between PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow and BOGDANKA LUK Lublin. The home team from Belchatow is currently within the playoff zone, in seventh place on 28 and 10-6. The visitors from Lublin are fourth on 38 and 13-5. The match is scheduled to start at 14:45 (13:45).

Indykpol AZS Olsztyn and Nowak-Mosty MKS Bedzin will close the competition day on Saturday with a game at 17:30 (16:30). Standing ninth on 24 and 7-10, hosts Indykpol are aiming to climb up into the playoff spots, while 14th-placed Nowak-Mosty, on 12 and 3-15, are looking to climb up out of the relegation spots.

Two neighbours in the table, on equal points, will get Sunday’s competition day started at 14:45 (13:45). 11th-placed Trefl Gdansk, on 23 and 7-11, will entertain 10th-placed Slepsk Malow Suwalki, on 23 and 9-9.

Then, Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski will host ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle at 17:30 (16:30). Cuprum stand in 12th place on 22 and 9-9, while ZAKSA are running fifth on 34 and 11-6.

Finally, Asseco Resovia Rzeszow and Barkom Kazhany Lviv will close the 19th leg on Monday evening with Resovia entertaining their Ukrainian visitors at 20:30 (19:30). The home side is just above the cut-off line for the playoffs, in eighth place on 28 and 8-10, while Barkom are in the middle of the relegation zone, in 15th place on 11 and 4-14.
