Defending champions and Poland Cup and Poland Super Cup laureates BOGDANKA LUK Lublin beat last season’s bronze medalists PGE Projekt Warsaw in the big match of the 25th leg in the men’s volleyball PlusLiga in Poland. This result helped 2024-2025 runners-up and FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship bronze medalists Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie secure the first place in the final regular season standings with two games to go. As the seven matches of the leg unfolded from Friday to Monday, it also became evident that Asseco Resovia Rzeszow have now booked a safe spot in the quarterfinal playoffs.

BOGDANKA LUK Lublin mastered a 3-1 (31-29, 25-21, 19-25, 25-12) road win over PGE Projekt Warsaw on Sunday. The champions’ 23-year-old middle blocker Maciej Zajac registered an impressive 79% success rate in attack and added a kill block towards a 12-point tally, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Outside hitter Wilfredo Leon contributed two aces and two kill blocks to top the chart with a match-high 18 points. BOGDANKA stopped short of surpassing Projekt in the current standings, but they have a game in hand in the race for the second place in the regular season. The team from Lublin stands third on 47 points and a 16-7 win-loss record, while the squad from the capital is in the runner-up position on 48 and 17-7.

Table leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie took advantage of the situation and, after snatching the three points from their home match against Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski, improved to 56 and 19-5 and cemented on top of the standings as they can no longer be pushed below the first place. On Saturday, Aluron beat Cuprum Stilon by 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17) at home. Middle blocker Mateusz Bieniek spearheaded the winners with two aces, two stuffs and a 75% success rate in attack towards a match-high 16 points. The MVP award was assigned to his teammate – outside Bartosz Kwolek – who finished with 14 points, including three blocks and an ace. Cuprum Stilon are running in 11th place on 24 and 7-16.
Asseco Resovia Rzeszow hammered out an emphatic 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) shutout of their visitors Barkom Kazhany Lviv and stamped their ticket to the playoffs. They are now in fifth place on 43 and 15-8 and can no longer drop below the eighth-place cut-off. The Ukrainian team from Lviv is third from the bottom, in 12th place on 23 and 8-15. Resovia’s setter Marcin Janusz earned the MVP recognition, while three players – Resovia’s Canadian middle blocker Danny Demyanenko (four stuffs, one ace) and French outside Yacine Louati (two stuffs, two aces), and Barkom Kazhany’s Australian outside Lorenzo Pope – shared the top scorer honors with 12 points each.
The leg was closed on Monday evening with Indykpol AZS Olsztyn’s 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-15) home victory over InPost ChKS Chelm. Indykpol, who qualified for the playoffs after their previous match on Wednesday, stand in fourth place on 45 and 16-8, while the PlusLiga rookies from Chelm are running second from the bottom, in 13th place on 23 and 7-17. German outside Moritz Karlitzek fired five aces for the winners towards a 24-point total and emerged as the best scorer and the MVP of the match.
Trefl Gdansk vs. KS Jastrzebski Wegiel - Match Highlights
Four teams are still in contention for the remaining three playoff vacancies. Last year’s regular season winners JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj are running at the front of that pack, in sixth place on 36 and 13-10. On Sunday, they produced a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-21) sweep of their road game against another candidate for a quarterfinal spot, Energa Trefl Gdansk. Jastrzebski Wegiel’s French Benjamin Toniutti claimed the MVP nomination, while opposite Lukasz Kaczmarek topped the scorer chart with 15 points under his belt. Trefl are still hanging on to the edge of the playoff zone, in eighth place on 34 and 12-11.
PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow are in between them, in seventh place on 35 and 12-10, with a game in hand. On Saturday, they battled it out for a 3-2 (25-22, 14-25, 19-25, 28-26, 15-11) away victory over Slepsk Malow Suwalki, with middle Bartlomiej Lemanski leading the way with an impressive team high of 23 points, including four blocks and an ace, and snatching the MVP recognition. Slepsk Malow’s opposite Bartosz Filipiak was the best scorer of the match with 29 points. The team from Suwalki is in 10th place on 26 and 7-17 and is now mathematically both safe from relegation and out of contention for the playoffs.

In the leg’s opening match on Friday, ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle achieved a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22) home victory over table trailers Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa, but remained below the red line for the quarterfinals, in ninth place on 33 and 10-13. Steam are rock bottom, in 14th place on 16 and 4-19, but still with a very distant shot at salvation in the league. ZAKSA’s Italian international opposite Kamil Rychlicki delivered a match-high 23 points, including three aces. Outside hitter Jakub Szymanski chipped in with another 22, including three aces and a block, and brought home the MVP award.
Next on the PlusLiga program is the delayed match of the 20th leg between Steam and SKRA, to be played on Wednesday, March 11. The 26th leg will follow from Friday, March 13, to Monday, March 16.
